Disk Brakes

Post by Monkey0726 »

I'm working on a disk brake conversion front and rear for a 1967 L60. I'm using rotors and calipers from a 1989 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4. I had to have a machine shop mill out the center hole bigger so it would fit over the Patrol hub. I downloaded the cnc program from EMachineShop.com and ordered the parts to make the brackets. I don't know how to upload photos but I will try to get some up soon.

Congratulations! It looks amazing and like it always belonged there.

Remember, it's cheaper by the dozen... I'll bet that a number of members here will want something like that.

Once completed, please post all the details about the process.

Looks really sharp nice work. Did you have to change your studs out?

I will probably replace the 2 longer studs that used to work with the drum brake set up. They do not interfere with anything so you could leave all the studs stock if desired. Once I have this completed I will let you guys know if it actually works. On the front I had to grind a touch off of the calipers so they would clear the casting on the axle housing. It's a tight fit but I think it will work! :D

I have fitted the brackets on the axels and installed the disks and calipers with success. I had to grind a little of the caliper and axle housing for ample clearance on the front. Everything's seems to be fitting well. I ended up removing all of the body work from the frame to properly prep everything for paint. I put the cab back on the chassis last night and picked up all of the new brake lines today. I'm hoping to test the system in a few weeks. The engine and transmission are currently at an engine shop getting rebuilt so it may be a few weeks before I can test them out. I would be glad to text you some pics.
