This ranch spans Alpine, TX to Ft.Davis, TX. There is no land on any horizon that is not theirs. We were there to cull some feral animals too mean to trap or rope. All mountains in any distant horizon is still on their ranch. But the story the Patrol.

Patrol news......I ran sun up to sun down mostly in some form of 4WD and only consumed about 9 gallons per day! I am running that NAPA Rochester clone carb and I think is much better in power and efficiency than any of the others.

After several incidents the Patrol never failed though the Warn winch broke and some how we lost our tow chain but the Patrol handled everything and the hill climbs..... if filmed correctly ....would be the most aggressive ever on film for a Patrol at altitudes between 5-6,000 ft of elevation.

It goes into Eddy the Eagle of Rafael next week for re-arching of the leaf springs.

So David is unable to email pictures to himself to resize them so he sent them to me to post here. They arrived resized, what a surprise. A bit small but I can still see the body damage on the passenger door. I know nothing of the story so I have no idea what order they should be arranged in but it does look like a good story. They're pretty great, here they are.

Greetings Patrollees Worldwide,

First, let me say that ranch has seem every movie star and country western star ever interested in hunting in Texas as well as a long list of well equipped hunters. The guy in the cowboy hat has seen it all. He had reservations last year when he saw my 65 Patrol for the first time hunting at Liar's Lair. After this year, after it went into every canyon and hill climb a fully locked vehicle normally goes...he just looks at it and says......... Wow! He is already looking forward to the next time he sees it.

Next time he sees it....the leaf springs will be re-arced. Then, I need to find someone who can fix the winch. When I hit the spool in or out lever it just goes click. ....thoughts from the Patrol planet?

If you rebuild your Patrol....USE IT...USE IT for what it was made to be used for...it will amaze you ......with a good carb (NAPA clone) but make sure it is worthy and you understand shifting on climbs or descents...over it may kill you. Hint....you can't shift. Just pick low low and crawl slow.

Patrols are indeed amazing off-road vehicles. Making them shiny and pretty is nice but you still need one that you'll be okay with taking it out in the brush and letting it show you what it was really designed for.

Greetings Patrollees Worldwide,

This likely goes under the thread, "What have you done to your Patrol lately"...but I just want to say that Santa's Sleigh has been upgraded. First, we replaced the 36 year old Ramsey winch which broke during our W TX hunt with an 8,000 Warn. Then, Eddy the Eagle added a new leaf spring per wheel and raised the front 2.5" and the back 3'. That will work, because I had Eddy load in down and test the driveshaft location at full compression and second because the existing leaf springs were weakened to the point of being concave. Those old steel leaf springs must be made from very good steel because we really bounced them to the max and they stayed in the game. It now sets up perfectly for our little forays into W TX and parts unknown. He also replaced the bushings all around.

I will be back in TX next week and will take a few pictures and configure my new phone so it will upload pictures to this forum.

Patrolling with both my 63 & 66 this week. Plateucal coming over for some fun mid week.
