60Patrol

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 1973 Patrol which has spent most of its existence in Colombia. Heaters were apparently a luxury option there, so virtually none were imported with them. I live in Connecticut - and I can't imagine driving to work in the winter without a heater. Several days a year are below zero here There are several after market options available, but I'd really really like to keep the interior looking vintage. If anyone has a heater from a Patrol, I have a good home for it! Alternatively, if anyone has retrofitted their patrol with a non-factory, but still vintage option (such as from another model, manufacturer, etc.) from this same time period, I would be interested in learning more.

Hi everyone,
As I posted in my project thread, i did find a complete heater assembly on ebay. I took the core to the radiator shop and expect to get it back later this week. I have a template that I drew up over the weekend that I am going to try out on a piece of wood before I start cutting into the firewall. What I don't know about is how the heater hoses connect up with the radiator hose. Could someone share a picture? I'm sure connecting this up will be easy for the radiator shop, but having a reference point will be pretty helpful.

Since I adapted a heater to mine, some variations with the original setup were done, so I hope somebody else chimes in and comments on my setup. Please note that the Patrol heater uses 5/8" hoses, but in mine I used 1/2" because that's the heater that I have at hand.

At the rear of the cylinder head, on the manifold size, there's a threaded plug, that also has the lifting bracket for the engine. You have to remove that plug and install there an adapter for the hose that goes to the inlet of the heater (the one where the valve is located). You can find this adapter at Autozone or other vendors.

The other heater hose returns to the engine bay and joins the system at the lower radiator hose. You'll see on the link, the adapter that I made for connecting the heater at this point. You can also buy the following adapter for this purpose at Napa: BK 6601559 (you'll have to make a hole in the radiator hose to fit this adapter)

It's worth noticing that over the years, Nissan switched the location of the return hose to the upper radiator hose. Probably our members in Australia have some input on this.

Thanks Esteban. Much appreciated. I have some more shopping to do! I was supposed to hear from the radiator shop by today and didn't, so I'm guessing they've run into some issues with the heater core. All good, it looks like I'll have heat sooner rather than later.

If anyone can share a picture of their set-up, that would be great. My Patrol is a '73, so a later vintage where the connection might be more appropriate to the upper radiator hose as opposed to the lower hose.

I was digging some photos here at the forum for clues. Maybe I was wrong regarding the location of the attachment of the return radiator hose being different for later models of Patrol after looking at a post of G60Michael of his 1979 MWB G60 - Parts Patrol

Scroll down to the 4th picture in the series and you'll see that it is the same attachment as the USA Patrols. The routing of the hose towards the left side is due to different location of the heater for the RHD Patrols.

It will be nice to have the valve since you can shut down the heater during hot weather, so no residual heat will be in the cabin. I don't have that, and rely solely on the valve of the heater itself, and it's fine.

Mike, I have an extra lower radiator "T" hose. I also have an extra OEM heater. Let me know. No I do not know if the heater worked. It did before the BAM body shop disassembled Presdio Patrol and left it out in the rain for 6 months.

Thanks for the offer(s). I had already ordered the radiator T off of ebay. I had previously scored a complete heater (also off of ebay) that I am fitting into the Patrol. So, I don't think I need anything currently. Just some extra time to get it all connected up. This weekend I cut the hole in the firewall and sanded all the rust off of the heater unit. I'll post pictures on the project thread soon.
