Spare tire carrier alignment

Post by zed »

It seems that the spare tire carrier on my Patrol is not correctly engaging the “lock” pin (item 33 on diagram).

Is there a bushing or other method to adjust the pivot of the carrier to provide better alignment?
Thanks,
Keith

Hi keith, first make sure that the pin #5 isnt worn. Also the plates #16 #20 make sure the holes are not elongated where the pin goes and also the holes in the carrier itself. If that looks ok plate #20 can be loosened and moved a bit. The catch pin can also be loosened and adjusted. Now these adjustments are minimal on both of these, but maybe between the two there will be enough. :D The mounting holes in plate #20 can be elongated to get more adjustment out of it, but if everything is tight and correct the stock adjustments should be enough. :D

Along with everything that Ron said, make sure that washer #24 is in place. You can even go with a thicker or additional washers here. That will server to cock the carrier up a little. I use that trick on the door hinges, too. ;)
Beyond any hope for intervention
