Does any one have a good pic of a stock distributor? I think i have something else in My patrol. Notice the 2 metal tubes on either side of the dist. Auto trans Vacuome???
See pic. Also where do I get new dist. and parts. good replacement or original. Thanks guys.

That is the stock distributor. It is the water-protect distributor. New ones aren't available. You can get a Pertronix electronic ignition kit for it. You could replace it with a non water-protect distributor.

the basic design and layout looks like an original water protect (wp) distributor to me- it has the 3 hold down screws that attach the cap to the distributor body, but those aftermarket spark plug wire boots are covering up the tops of the sockets where the threads would be for the factory water proof screw on caps, so I would pull one of the wires off and see if there are threads molded into the plug wire sockets on the cap.

the two copper tubes that go to the distributor body are also part of the water protection design- one line provides a very slight amount of vacuum to the inside of the distributor, which puts a positive seal on all the rubber O-rings, and the other line goes to the air cleaner housing and acts as a vent to prevent too much vaccum from being applied.

The vaccum advance also looks different on yours as well- the original patrol vacuuum advance would also have a copper tube with a compression fitting, rather than a piece of rubber vacuum hose.

FYI-- if yours does turn out to be the original WP distributor, then you should be warned that replacement rotors are extremely hard to find. The caps are still available out there, but rotors? fuggetaboutit

The internals for the waterproof distributor as mentioned above are easily replaced using the Pertronix kit #1763 that is available on ebay. Another option is to get a replacement distributor for the engine at Motorpowerinc.com. They sell parts for industrial applications. They have rebuilt kits for the Nissan P40 engines. The engine in your vehicle is a model P. Many of the parts are interchangeable between the engines (including disrtibutors.) A new distributor can be bought including the points, condenser, rotors for these newer non-waterproof distributors.

Yes the cap does have the threads for caps to screw on ..But no caps. Are those availabe. May go to the drop in replacement non-waterproof Job on the Datson part site.
A little spendy but whatcha going to do? Don't really plan on submerging it anyway...Ha at least not on purpose. I have a really funny story about submurging nissan's if some ones interested. Humility is good for stories later in life. Also all the contacts on the wires are fried looked like crispy little catipilers that just fell off when I touched them.

What do the Distributer end of the wires look like with the metal screw caps on?? do you just strip the ends to bare wire? Got a pic?

As you can see in the upper section showing the wire with the screw and the compression and rubber grommet on a wire that is cut off flush, there is no need to bare any of the wire. There is a sharp point on the inside of the caps that I have. The wire is then just pushed down over the point by the screw cap and compression and grommet assembly.

Try checking with your local Nissan dealer first. They might still be able to order the cap. The part number is 22162-46502. Last I heard they were about $35. That New Datsun Parts is way overpriced at $99, but he always is.
