60Patrol

First of all, let me say that I was referred to this magnificent site by Wade (Grenadier). I can't thank him enough for exposing this awesome culmination of knowledge and resources. That being said, I will take deliver of a faded green 68 Patrol early next week.... Yes, it is the one listed on CL in NE. I was going to pick it up in a few weeks but a last minute business trip is sending me to within a few hours of the Patrol, so I have decided to pick up the Patrol after visiting a customer. I'm glad to be a part of this community and I hope to learn as much as I can about the cool Patrol vintage. The Patrol has always been on my bucket list. For my entire life, I've always had a toy in the shop to tinker with. From the 59 MGA (Should have kept!), 69 Midget, 71 MGB, 72 Datsun Z, 84 Trooper (I should have kept).....to the cool Audi TT Convt 225 that I just brought back to life after buying it with the front completely crushed. I've always liked interesting cars that were not main stream.

Ask whatever you need, there is no such thing as a dumb question. We're glad to help bring another Patrol to life. You're starting with one that should be easy to work with.

Welcome Mark! I had a 56Mga,57TR3A 62TR3B and a gazillion others so you got to Patrols like I did...Something different and not seen everyday. Have fun and keep us in the loop as you revive your new addition to the addiction!

This past week, I was in the process of trading my Yamaha Venture Royale 1200 Touring bike for a toooo rusty TR6. I contemplated the acquisition several days and decided against the rusty but original TR6/Yamaha trade. Well, while cleaning my shop out last week, a guy walks into my shop. He slapped down cash ($500 more than I bought it for 4 yrs ago) and drove the cycle away. At the same time, the Patrol came into my life. I'm excited to tear into the light green beast. I will keep everyone updated.

I could pretty much promise you that with a good buffing and wax that light green beast would shine.

welcome to the forum, please don't hesitate to post up pics or just put them in the gallery..I think you got a great buy. I bet that old girl just need some love and it'll fire right up.

Here is a list of what I plan on doing when I get it back to the shop. What do you guys think? I forget anything?

1. Check oil level in engine
2. Place Auto Trans/Kerosine mix, Marvelous Mystery Oil or whatever the best recommendation from the group is......in each cylinder and let it sit
overnight (or longer).
3. Check fluid levels in trans, diff, etc (Just to make sure but probably not so important for the moment of truth)
4. After #2 and with spark plugs out, turn crank by hand to ensure engine is not locked up.
5. Change oil
6. Clean carb
7. Change fuel filter(s)?
8. Connect fuel inlet line (from fuel tank) to portable solution (Plastic gas can, etc). Will check Patrol tank
condition later.
9. Change Spark plugs
10. Clean radiator with warm water and cleaning solution, refill with water (Antifreeze/water later)
11. Prelube engine (Considering this)
12. Place battery in Patrol
13. Remove valve cover and pour fresh oil over the entire valve train.
14. Cross fingers and turn the key

Sounds like a good plan.

Excellent, sounds like you've done this before.. If you can't move the engine with a ratchet on the crank, put it in gear and gently rock it. Also Seafoam additive is a great way to remove carbon from piston and rings once you get it started...
