my 1967 patina project build

I decided not to use the original split rims and purchased a set of Land Cruiser rims with just the right amount of patina. I had planned to use the original hubcaps and really like the smooth clean look.


I am not a big fan of the original late model FJ40 hubcap and I also hang out with too many LC friends so I wanted something a little cleaner and different. Enter the 1970's Pontiac welded to the cutdown mounting flange of the Land Cruiser hubcap.

Nothing too exciting going on lately, been busy with other projects and other peoples projects but I did take some time to play with my clutch linkage and tried to find the best of 3 setups. There are some holes that are less than round and a couple of the linkage rods have significant wear. I was able to weld one up and regrind it though. Some parts were blue and some black so I just repainted them to what they last had on them.

Years ago I did fix all the play in the linkage like you’ve done, but relied on a guy that was good at welding and shaping. I did myself was to add a grease zerk in the idler support with the two brackets.

I was thinking about doing that too. Mine moves freely but the other two from the parts rigs are seized. I used some heat and got one apart and cleaned it up some but is pretty pitted. Thinking I might enlarge the hole on the bottom that way the grease will flow to the ends and not just find the shortcut.

It has been a busy spring so far and I have not been able to work in the garage as much as I had hoped. It might only get worse in the next few months but I was able to get a little something done over the weekend. Go the axle back together and started installing the disc brake conversion I made earlier this year. I have posted some details of the build in the modification area of the forum.

Are the v6 Toyota calipers a typical swap? I’ve done a few swaps using the land cruiser rotors and v6 calipers, fj80 master cylinder and dual diagram booster. I noticed the lack of room for a booster, has anyone used hydro boost? I was considering swapping in a vortec. If I go through with it, I will build different axles.

Not really sure what others are using. I had a pair of calipers on the shelf that I had left over from my old 4runner so I started there. I also had the old rotors from my 77 land cruiser and new ones for the 4runner but both were a little shallow. After researching some specs I found a pair that was deeper and allow the caliper to sit back and reduce the amount of spacer needed. I have not gotten to the master cylinder yet but I have seen some where they added a spacer to make some room.

I did not take any pics of them but I was able to crop the photo but not sure they show much detail. The had some wear but the cone and the tapered bushing both looked smooth with no uneven wear.

Is this ball and claw and corse spline like old land cruisers?

Yes it is. My fathers cj3 jeep also has this setup. The formal name is tracta joint.
