69 patrol i think ?????

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

what do you mean numbers??Numbers of Patrols sold int he USA? Or do you mean the Vin numbers? If you mean vin your vin plate should be located to the left of the radiator, on a 69. The passenger side of the frame also has a number stamped in it, so does the engine block on same side. Also on a 69 will be a door jam plate on drivers side door jam. This will denote "K" for hard top or no hard top, 69-onward only for this door jam tag. For info on resto there are many many questions, I don't see you asking any only one or two conversion questions? We have no idea if the tranny you have will bolt to what I assume you mean is the stock transfer case. Is it a conversion tranny using the stock transfer case?? When it comes to value...the truck is worth the most restored to original or close to original. Converting it may make the best truck for you to enjoy but it won't be worth squat if you sell it down the road. Not to mention with only 2616 sold in the USA it is kinda unproductive to kill a good P-troll converting. There are many out there that are missing an engine, tranny and so forth that are already dead and make a perfect conversion project. Since many people have been doing conversion the amount of stockers is getting to be less and less...if your goal is to have a converted truck a TLC or jeep or Scout is a better choice for a whole bunch of reasons.

If the Patrol is stock and rebuildable I still discourage you from converting. You would be better off fixing it up a bit and selling it then using that cash to get yourself an FJ40 project. One of the main reasons I say this is any and nearly all converting you do to the Patrol will have to be custom fabricated. There are no kits for adpators and so forth. Also it is a one way trip meaning once converted you will have cut and welded on the frame and it will never be stock again....so you are basically killing the Patrol in my eyes. Even better yet you could fix the truck up sell it and if you really want a P-troll project then buy one for a few hundred bucks that has no engine or tranny. You then are ahead of the game a bit because you have some cash left over to start buying the stuff you need to convert. As far as I know there is only one motor besides the P engine that bolts in and it may not even bolt right in. It is a Chevy inline-6, check the photo section. In a folder called Bucky's Patrol, he did the conversion on his. For a v8 and an auto is going to take tons of work. If you still go the route of converting with the 69 you have then email Chris at Santa Cruz Nissan. He has a Patrol he converted to a 350 and an auto. He can provide you with the info you need to get the project going.

I started with basically the same thing, I got a Patrol for cheap with no engine, tranny, t-case or axles. The guy I got it from started gathering parts for a build up using Land Cruiser parts, including axles and tranny and t-case. I have done conversions on L.C.'s before so it seemed the easiest way to go. There is a lot of tech support out there for the Toyota stuff and it fits the Patrol nicely. I used a Chev 400 small block in mine. But I now have plans for a Caddy 500 big block with a 400 TH auto. I built this Patrol for running in deep snow, so I need the big power and the biggest tires you get, (44" Boggers). My other Patrol however, is completely stock, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I believe that if you have the know-how or know someone that does, you can do whatever you want to whatever you want. Of course you may need the pocket book that can keep up. I'd say the cheapest and easiest way for you to achieve what you are after is to run a Chev 350 SB and Land Cruiser tranny and t-case. That way if you are using the stock axles, they will line up with the outputs on the t-case. Otherwise you will need to find axles and a trany t-case combo, that match. As I said the nice thing about LC stuff is that it has almost the same dimensions as the Patrol. Good Luck.
