Pertronix 1762 for a 1969 Patrol?

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

Pertronix 1762 for a 1969 Patrol?

Post by MuirBound »

I inherited my 1969 Patrol from my grandfather a few years back. I have some mechanical knowhow and have done several steps to get this beast rolling again. However, there were a few more advanced fixes that needed to be addressed to get her road-ready so I handed it off to a local mechanic. He did most of the work but finally threw in the towel and gave it back as is. The one hang-up he had that is the electronic ignition.

He had ordered a Pertronix electronic ignition 1762

He claimed that this was not the right fit.

Can anyone verify this?

I still have the 1762 but will get another if needed. I am very eager for any knowledge from you all as this may be my last hurdle.

In the following thread is the complete guide to the Pertronix:

https://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopi ... =41&t=2516

What we will need to know is what type of distributor you have. If you have the water-protect type, then the #1762 Pertronix is not the right one.

The water protect distributor was on 99% of US/North American Patrols. The correct Pertronix kit for that distributor is the 1763 kit (copied from RiverPatrol comment in that thread)

Is there a way to tell from this picture what type of distributor I have?

I appreciate any help, this is all a learning experience for me.

Yes, that is the water-protect distributor.

Is Petronix 1762 the correct fit for a non-water type distributor?

Thanks

Ok guys, I'm stumped again.

I attempted to covert the 1762 for my distributor but it seems like my distributor may be different?

I followed the link that explained the conversion but cant seem to make this one work.

Am I missing something or do I have a different distributor?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok, I must have been asleep when I responded. You have the water protect distributor and you need the 1763 Pertronix kit. I am sorry to have steered you wrong.

No problem at all and thank you for the quick reply and picture. I just ordered the PerTronix 1763LS Ignitor so fingers crossed this will work when it gets here.

Thank you again for your help!
