SERVICE MANUAL STATUS
Hey Gang! Just a note on the status of my making a scanning in a copy of the SERVICE MANUAL. A little snag, but I can work around it. But after I describe it to you, if you guys know of a better way, or a better until please chime in. Basically I have scanned in ever page of the book into a *.bmp format. From there I have several options, but to try and make it a little quicker I planned to copy the *.bmp's into Microsoft Power Point. From there I can/could print it to my Adobe PDF file generator as one document... Instead of printing each individual *.bmp directly, then combining them at the end... Read slow, but works. Anyway the snag is that Power Point starts to bomb out around 180 pages, figures, there is only like 220. Buy bombing out I mean the file becomes corrupt. So, I my plan now is to just do it in chunks of 50 pages, then combined those at the end. Anyway, that is the status, just wanted to let you guys know I have not forgot about you all. So, unless you need it now, don't go spend $ on ebay for a SERVICE MANUAL. Because I plan to make it free for you all. Which brings up another point. This file is going to be BIG! Much bigger then the ENGINE SERVICE MANUAL. So, we are going to be hard pressed to find someone to post it on their web sight for free downloading. But my plan is to send this file on a CD to this sights web master Stephen F Smith. Who currently provides the ENGINE SERVICE MANUAL on a CD for like $7.00. I imagine he could just include this on the same CD, so, if we cant find a place to post it on the web, you all could contact Stephen for a copy. Oh, and the money goes to our club! Anyway, you all take care. Grant

; ; ; ; An easier way is to scan them directly; into Acrobat, this way they are directly converted into PDF. I do that pretty; often and get nice results with it, not to mention the saving of time and; hassle. Hey Gang! Well good news! Im am the proud owner of a PATROL with the newest P engine in the world! Yes a complete rebuild! And, it is running great! Just got it home last week! Anyways, just wanted to give you guys status on the SERVICE MANUAL. It is still not done, just know, I have been busy and dont want to make a bunch of excuses! But I will get it done one of these days soon... But, for those of you that cant wait you can get a hard copy from books4cars at: http://www.books4cars.com/search.asp?fi ... bmit=Go%21 They ran out awhile back, but have them in stock again. I got one and it is dated 1977. The service manual I coppied and have not finished converting to *.pdf is dated 1970. So, if you cant wait, or want one that is a little newer (even has some AUS smog info in it) then you may want to get the one from books4cars. It is a bit pricie, $67.00 or so, and it is not the best XEROX job in the world, but it does have all the info you would need. Well not any part numbers, but all the rebuild info you would ever need. Grant, Congrats on your engine rebuild. When are you going to post some pics of your Patrol? Did you take any photos of the rebuild process or installation? David

Hey David! Yes, I have a bunch of pics.. a whole before during and after set. Have pics of the engine in pieces on the floor and well just about evertying in between. A bunch of lessons learned too that I need to write up for anyone that is thinking of doing the same. Could save them $1000.00 of dollars, I say that because it cost me 1000s more then I expected! Hind sight and all! Grant

Great idea scanning the manual, I'll post it on my website since I have a lot of extra bandwith. My site is dialdave.org and even family members don't visit very often so the manual will be fine there for a few months. I'll set up an FTP account so you can send it there, e-mail me at dave@dialdave.org and we can work out the details.

Grant, just thought that I'd say thanks for all the time that you put in on the engine manual, and on this new one. Time, and concern for others, are at a premium these days. You've earned an Attaboy!, at least. 6x6
