My 69 is for sale to a good home

I'm almost done restoring my '69 Patrol and will be moving on to restore my '68 Patrol. Currently it's the cover vehicle on this site. The only things I have left are to install a new headliner and get one of the rear jumpseats recovered (it has a small tear in the seat). It is 100% stock with the original split rims, original toolbox (fits under the pass seat), original jack, original handcrank, carb, fuel filter and so on and so on. I just had the engine rebuilt 100 miles ago and it just passed smog here in Colorado. The body is pretty clean but not perfect. No rust on it as I used POR-15 on the frame, body and anywhere else I could before it was repainted. I even had the roof sand blasted prior to painting. There are still a few minor dings/dents in the sheetmetal. Since it is a 30+ year old 4wd, I wasn't as concerned with that as I was with the mechanical function of it. It has the factory high fording kit that will enable you to ford up to 40 inches of water. It will go over 65 mph even here at altitude. It is an eye catcher too. I would prefer to sell it to someone who is a Patrol enthusiast thus the post to you here and the Nissan4Wheelers site. Price is negotiable as I've seen nice Patrols go for anywhere from $4k and up. The real reason Im writing you is to ask you to take a few pics of that kit!!! PLEASE!! and post them here so we can see it. In that I dont think I have heard of anyone else with a factory one, or an after market one for that mater! Grant

The 40" fording depth comes into play with the distributor. The distributor is waterproof and will alolow the vehicle to continue to run in high water. The next place that becomes crucial for the vehicle is the air intake. The top of the air intake on the oil bath filters should be 40" on a vehicle with no lift and no sagging springs on the original size tires. I have not seen a Patrol yet that was not equipped with the screw on style plug wires which leads me to believe that Patrols in the US either all came with that option. Would be interested to see one that didn't have them... -Jeff

Yep....nothing to it, a water proof distibutor and a oil bath 40" off the deck. I have a picture from an Australian mag showing a deep fording Patrol, they put a piece of plastic over the hood and grill to further help protect the engine. Something to think about if you go fording....drain all fuilds afterwards, tranny, t-case, engine, fron & rear diffs. Also grease it and that might go as far as repacking the wheel bearings....trust me you will want to do this if you ford anything above your hubs. Lastly be X-tra sure your gas cap is water tight or won't be in water...otherwise you could contaminate your fuel system.

Does the factory fording kit also include an extended breather tube for the gas tank also? Just wondering.

hmmmnnnn....good question Derryl. There was a gas cap and it was "watertight", three were available (standard, locking, watertight)....at this very moment I am unsure if it was part of the "deep water" kit or just an option.

As far as I know from what I've read, the fording kit is the waterproof distributor with screw on o-ringed spark plug wires, along with waterproofed trans, engine and diffs (vents located up high). The gas tank breather and intake thru the oil bath filter are the limiting items. All three of my Patrols have it so it was fairly common I assume. I did notice one difference though on one of them. The cover for the oil bath filter has no external openings other than a part of it that faces aft towards the firewall. The other two have rectangular slots in the leading portion of the oil bath cover. I would think that the aft facing cover opening is the best but your still limited by the gas tank breather unless you modified it or as Fud pointed out had a watertight cap. I'll try to get some pics of the two together to show you what I mean. David

It's dark right now but I went out and shot a photo of the oil bath setup on my 67 parts vehicle. The top is not on it so you can see the base module is different. David

Most excellent David....I had forgotten about all those things. You are 100% correct and it talks about all those things in many of my books. That oil bath is definately diffrent yet it does look org....I would be intrested in knowing more about it. Also the heater on the 67 is diffrent yet it also looks org....know anything about it?
