Replacement Gearboxes G60s
Hi all, I think my gearbox is on the way out, just wondering what is out there that I can replace it with. I have the option of another 3spd, not sure on condition or price yet, but I would like to go for a 5 speed. Just wondering what (if) other people have fitted, I'll be looking for something not too expensive, and that I can mount up with ease to the standard 4litre 6. Brendan, The only 5 speed that will fit without major mods is the one produced by Mark's Adapters in Australia. Unfortunately, they stopped producing them about 3 years ago and scrapped the tooling. I did come across two used ones on Mark's Adapters site but got screwed by the guy working there and he sold them out from under me (see post on doing business with Australia). Otherwise, your talking big mods and/or swaps. I tried to go down this path more than once but never succeeded. Sorry, David

There is one more place you could try.... Four Wheel Drive & Commercial Vehicle Repowering: Over the years CRS has marketed 4WD conversions for many vehicles including Landcruisers, Nissan G60, Toyota Hilux, Nissan 720, Suzuki Sierra, Holden Jackaroo, Nissan MQ Patrol, Nissan GQ, Range Rover, Landrovers etc. But of course with CRS’s machining experience any swap can be achieved if you have a special requirement. http://www.rodshop.com.au/intro.htm

I emailed CRS in June asking about tranny swaps. Below is my email and their reply. Keith, Sorry, but there are no gear box swaps to suit your application available in Australia, we only do motor swaps to the original gear box using the 250 Ford or Chrysler 6. Regards Rod ----- Original Message ----- From: Leshia Danette Youngblood To: rodshop@castlemaine.net.au Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 5:05 PM Hello, I ran across your sight while surfing for Nissan transmission swaps. I have a 1969 Nissan Patrol KL60 4x4 with the original "P" straight 6 engine and 3 spd. I'm looking for a way to change the transmission to a 4 or 5 spd. Do you know of any way to do this or know of any one that has done it? I live in the USA and I'm a member of the Nissan Patrol Club of America. http://communities.msn.com/NissanPatrolClubAlbuquerque Most of us have the 1961-1969 Patrols. Alot of interest has been shown in transmission swaps in our club. Currently we have 600+ members. I'm sure not all are willing to swap trannys, but alot are. Any info you could provide would be great. Thank you for your time, Keith

Interesting Keith...well at least they have engine swaps. Take a look at Hector's posts...it may be possible to get later model stuff in a 60 series Patrol fairly easy....I am probily going to convert my blue 64 and well anything can be done. It just cost money...sometimes lot's of money. I guess if a person is looking for easy conversion they should have bought an FJ-40, the 60 series Patrol is just not a good canidate unless you go with USA stuff and then you have custom work anyways. So why bother if you are looking for cheap and easy, just buy a diffrent rig that suits your needs better....It all depends on the individual in my opinion.....
