Ford 11" clutch friction plate

Post by richw »

Good day all.
I am about to change out my friction plate and release bearing.
I don't have a new cover plate, they appear to as scarce as 'hen's teeth'.
No matter, growing up we always managed many friction plates per cover plate.

My question is what modifications are necessary?
It's 1/8" wider overall, the same thickness and the splines must be the same.
What trouble does that extra 1/8" cause?

I don’t think it will be an issue. The extra 1/8” is 1/16” in the radius so it’s very little extra.

I know it has been done, but no one has reported it for a definitive answer.

In addition, the pressure plate face is 10 13/16” so the disk is 1/16” more in diameter. That means tha the disk surpasses by 1/32” at the edge (half the difference in diameter). It’s very little extra.

I will do it.
