1964 L60 - Unexpected Purchase

Good evening!

Earlier this week, I was travelling in northern British Columbia for work. After a long day, I decided to stop it a local steakhouse have a couple glasses of wine and flip through Facebook marketplace. I’ve been looking for a mid 60s Cadillac convertible for sometime, but had never pulled the trigger. As I was looking through the convertible ads, I came across a 1964 Nissan Patrol L 60. Up until that moment, I had never even heard of a Nissan Patrol. I immediately fell in love with the body style and immediately reached out to the gentleman selling. Turns out he had dozens of offers in the two hours and had been up and told him that if nobody puts a deposit down before 8 AM tomorrow, which is when I had to be at the airport to catch my flight I’d quickly stop by and take a look at it. Thankfully, nobody came through and by chance, he was two minutes away from the airport. I have to say this thing is incredible. There is hardly a spec of rust on this entire vehicle and in my opinion, runs amazing. There is very little work to be done on this and I’m extremely excited to pick it up in a couple of weeks and go over it with a fine tooth comb. I am very excited to start this project and learning more from this group.

Welcome to the forum! You are starting out with a lot better Patrol than a lot of us started with.

Afternoon, all —

I've gotta say, this Patrol has been an absolute blast so far. Has it hit the road yet? NOPE. Have I sunk more into it than I paid for the thing? You bet I have. 😅

Here's where she stands so far:

Swapped in a Pertronix Ignitor kit and a new coil
Rebuilt the carb
New throwout bearing, retainer spring, and had the clutch rebuilt
Fresh set of rims and tires
Upgraded seats (going in this fall)
New OEM gauges — the originals were faded right out
Scrubbed years of grease and grime off the engine
Gapped the intake and exhaust valves
Rebuilt the starter
Building a whole new wiring harness — years of corrosion left me chasing gremlins
New oil pan gasket

What's on deck:

New suspension
Brake upgrade
First prototype of a custom seat damper system is nearly done — should look sharp and ride like a dream

Stay tuned. 🔧

They are made by a UK company called Lucari. A wee pricey but they look great.

I have a few other resto mod projects on the go and found that company while looking at upgrading the seats for my 67 Land Rover 2A. I am also working on a very rare 1963 Toyota FJ45 LV. It fell under the TOYOPET Branding. It still carries its original decals and badges. However it is a real project! it will take many, many, years before that sees any spark under the hood.
