complete and utter newbie

Post by pawikan »

Hi from SIlly Cone Valley!

Joined to research what I might want to purchase if the opportunity ever arises. Trying to figure out the difference in the years to see what would be the best year for me. If anyone has a link or page to point me to to start my edification, I'd appreciate it. I'm thinking if I ever do buy one, I get a near stock one and keep it that way. (Famous last words.) Oh, being in CA, I'm looking for something pre 1975 so I don't have to deal with smog checks.

Please free to chime in with your opinion and thoughts. I know nothing about these amazing vehicles and want to fix that.

Welcome to 60Patrol! You found the right place for your early Patrol related questions.

Being in the US the most common Patrols are years from 1962 to 1969; 1969 was the last year they were sold in the US. There are some later ones roaming around that have been imported from other countries. Trying to figure out the difference in years of the ones available here is a matter of learning to identify the subtle (but often incredibly frustrating) differences. The differences become frustrating because certain parts are incompatible with other years due to the subtle changes. Doors handles, door latches, seats, steering wheels, etc.

What you end up buying will depend on how much work you want to do, how much money you want to spend, and what you want it to be, as with any classic car. There are a couple available in the 'Classifieds' section here. Feel free to explore the forum, there is tons of documentation and lots of pictures.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Welcome.
The brain trust on this forum can/will help you evaluate and offer guidance on purchasing and maintaining any year G60/G61 Patrol. As with any older collectible vehicle, purchase the best one you can afford. Parts availability can be a challenge, so patience is mandatory.
