Fuel tank sending unit

Hi,
I am hunting a fuel sending unit for a '66 Patrol. Currently, the gage itself mounts to the top of the tank, which baffles me to be honest, as you would have to go back there, remove the cover, and check it...
There is a fuel gage on the dash. So, I would like to get a sending unit that works with the stock fuel gage.
Thanks,
Chuck

Sounds as though Rickheiserman’s mechanic might have worked on the Patrol at one time.
Is the wiring to the gauge still there? Sending units are becoming hard to find. If they modified the opening of the tank to fit the custom gauge they may have made it difficult to go back to the original sender. eBay has the sometimes but usually the later style that is secured with a lock ring, you’ll want the kind that is secured with screws.

I can state that the ones for sale on ebay from S. America work but read in reverse, The signal sent shows empty when full and full when empty.

The tank doesn't seem to be modified. It has 5 small machine screws. Is it possible to rewire the S. American one to read correctly?
Thanks for your responses!

I had a guy try to rewire mine but he was not successful. However, he might not have known how to do it either. It seems like to me it should work. I sent my best gauge cluster, found here from forum members , to a gauge rehab shop in MN. Plan was to simply reverse the lettering but then the gauge shop closed with no attempt to return my gauge.

I'll get the one from S. America and try to rewire it. I have enough electronics experience to be dangerous. If successful, I'd be glad to do yours.

Thank you, that would be very much appreciated. I always thought it was possible.

I'm having the very same issue... I tried to switch wiring on the fuel sending unit on the tank, switching posts. Didn't work, but I'd love to know other "re-wire" options.
