Speedometer Cable

It is known that
a). that the [url]lower[/url] speedometer cable connection point changed after the 1965 year model from the transfer case (1960-1965) to the transmission (1966-69) if i recall correctly.

b). The upper cable connection to the speedometer changed about the same time. but that is not my concern.

My question is.....did Nissan use the same fitting on the lower cable connection when it changed from the transfer case to the transmission?

If so then, even though it looks wrong because it a KPH I could purchase the Speedo and cable from Anspira in Columbia and be assured the lower cable fitting will actually fit.

Naturally if anyone has a good cable for the 63 model Patrol I'd gladly buy it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you concerned about exceeding the speed limit, which is generally impossible in a Patrol, unless you are in a school zone. You can get a good dash mounted gps that will indicate speed. This solution worked great on my 1989 Sea Ray 268.

I have also wondered if the cable from a mid 60's Datsun 520 0r 620 would work. They are very very similar and may even be available at a local parts store. Here is a picture of one on ebay.

The other thing; if you just need the drive cable and not the sheathing the Datsun truck solution might prove useful by just using the drive core (the part that spins inside the cable because it looks identical).

The other thing, if you look at the Ebay photo attached is the view of the correct seal. For twenty bucks.....

I am pretty sure you can get this at Autozone. If is doesn't work, return it.

The issue that you guys with '69s don't understand is that the early speedo had a different gender fitting on the back of the head so any ol' cable won't work. Up to early '66 the speedo adapter was female so the cable needed a male end. Those cables are impossible to find. Folks get the ones on eBay all the time and find out they won't work when they go to install them. Here's a pic to show the difference.

Looks like L60Boerne is going to have to change genders. But the seal and possibly the core might work???
