Fuse Amps

Amps for 66-68 L60

Since I could not find a thread on the fuse amps for the L60 please note, from my Fuse Cover:

Battery/Horn - 20 Amp
Room/Stop - 5 Amp
Light - 20 Amp
Wiper - % Amp
Ignition - 8 Amp

Please correct this, I'd think this should be in the compatible parts list but if so, I could not find it.

The 68 Owners manual shows a 10 amp fuse for everything but the "lighting (headlights, tail, park, dash)" and the horn. Those two are 20 amp.

I am getting conflicting info. Depending on the wiring diagram I am seeing different fuse sizes. 67 and 68 use two 20 amp and the rest 10. Another diagram shows all at 15 amp except the ignition which was 10 (is this the older models?). The 69 use one 30, two 20's and three 10's.

Thank you Chris, I do know a 15 Amp fuse was found in the fuse box. it looked old. I paid Eddy the Eagle to get both wipers working, he said they were...but they are not. I have another mechanic coming by today to do a bunch of stuff. I added checking the amp draw of the wiper fuse.

I'll report back, fortunately I have two rebuilt wiper motors, maybe they work.

I would go with the 15's and the one 10. Better to start small. It would be worth the time to scrub up your contacts as well including the fuses, fuse holder and the rings and ring lugs on the fuse block. These little brass parts are subject to oxidation that can cause voltage drops.

I bought an assortment of glass fuses. The wiper motors only started working again with the 20 amp fuse though the fuse box cover indicated a 5 amp fuse was required. But who knows if the fuse box or fuse box cover for accurate for the 66. I can say the two fit together.

Old, crusty wiper motors are going to pull more current (amps) than when they were younger.

I took the wiper motors in El Bondo apart and cleaned the stator, armature and all the brush contacts, and I still think the smallest fuse I could get them to run with was a 15 amp, and then Anthony popped that one when he tried the wipers.

but, 20 amps is the HIGHEST I would go on any of the Patrol's circuits if you are running original wiring.

20 on the lighting circuit, 20 on the wipers, 10 (max) on the ignition, and 10-15 for the horn.

If you are still popping 20 amp fuses, then you have to find the bad wiring or dirty contacts in the circuit and get them cleaned up.
