fuel pump

Really old stuff that got saved. Here are the old Nissan Patrol Club America messages from the 'General' category. Warning, it's dusty in here!

Phil, you can get one here http://motorcare.com.au/ ask for Richard, price is $200 Australia dollars plus shipping. I would not use an eletric fuel pump as I had nothing but trouble with them on 2 Patrols. The one from Motorcare will bolt right in or you can use all the parts from it to rebuild yours if you want to keep the USA stock look. I have a few for sale that still need to be rebuilt if you are looking for this route. The stock mechanical pump works the best and I have found it to be trouble free.

Hey I did some digging and I found this place that rebuilds old fuel pumps and water pumps too. I called and inquired and found that they do not offer a kit but can rebuild it in house at a cost of around $70. check their site out and I am gonna send them one of mine here in a day or two. I will let you know how it turns out. http://www.then-now.com/

hey good info! What a lot fo us have done is get one from MotorCare in Australia and use it to rebuild ours or just drop it in. I got one from Nissan but this one and ones from Oz run way over a $100...like the Oz one runs about $150 and Nissan $180. The other thing people do is put in a eletric pump and from experience I had two Patrols that ran horrible or not at all with one. The old mechanical pump is best for the P enegine. Let us know how it turns out....

Guys,   I replaced my electric fuel pump with another one. The patrol still ran poorly. I then installed an inline fuel filter and bypassed the original one. It now runs much better. Could it be that the electric fuel pump and the original fuel filter set up were a poor combination ? I'll consider going with the manual fuel pump once I tackle another problem-cracked brake resevior.

I have had the same probs with eletric pumps. What hapened to you is that the stock seperator is not sealing, even a tiny bit of air messes up an eletric pump or did for me. I have brand new seperator assembly and it still leaked, the prob is usually in the old cork gasket, even when new they are old...I am working on a nice rubber one that will seal it all the way. Also check the glass for chips and the top for warpage or scars. I did the same thing you did and my truck ran much better but not good enough. So I put in a new stock mechanical pump and it runs 100 times better. No problems in fuel system at all now. the seperator is nice because it also removes water from fuel and is good at catching junk because it is verticle. I also like the cool old school glass bowl and seeing the fuel pump. I found with an eletric pump it is much more important to have a very tight fuel system as air will cavitate them badly. A member here, Vern, used a fuel regulator or fuel pressure fitting inline and it cured his probs as he was pumping to much pressure. What I can tell you is I had tons of probs with vapor lock, cavitation, incline problems, vapor lock due to heat and no fuel after the pump when it was eletric. Went back to stock mechanical and it never vapor locks or cavitates, gets all it needs at the carb and has zero problems in heat or on inclines.
