‘67 Tampa, FL: Hey everyone, I’m in the fraternity!

Greetings from sunny Florida,

I bought a 1967 Patrol L60 on April 20th, so I’m very new to the scene. My 60 is in decent shape, no rust with a strong motor. This funky little tractor has an ugly paint job, but damn if it doesn’t get more attention than a Ferrari! Nobody told me I’d have to talk to everybody I encounter! It’s been a lot of fun so far.

I have to admit that I’m a tiny bit apprehensive with parts and service scarcity. I want to keep running this hog with the stock drivetrain, but I’m starting to consider some radical ideas. Ideas like running a modern motor/tranny setup for ease of servicing. The only thing I’m afraid of with that idea is the fact that those projects never end! First it’s motor/trans, then power steering, then 4wheel discs, then front/rear diffs, etc. In the end I’ll have a very interesting machine indeed, but it won’t be a 1967 Nissan Patrol anymore!

My other two ideas: 1) restore to factory spec or 2) stop whining, leave it alone, enjoy and repair when necessary.

You've covered all the possible scenarios of what to do. Whatever you decide, we'll be eager to follow.

Welcome aboard! You'll find many here to help you allay your fears of parts availability. You've got a solid runner so you're already most of the way there. Most of the mechanical components are very solid and will last a lifetime with proper maintenance. When things do break, this forum is usually the go to source for finding what you need. The search might be a bit challenging at times and require patience, but anything worth having is. Many parts are readily available. I can think of many folks that keep a reliable stock Patrol running for many many years (Esteban?), whereas I can't think of a single one that has kept and used a totally modified one.

Drive it and enjoy the attention it gets.

I was bored and thought I’d update you guys on the decision; I’m going to focus on restoring to stock specs. I’m not going for museum-quality restoration, but more an “honest driver” grade. I’ve owned this 60 for a month and drive it a lot, so she’ll never be a trailer queen.
