I picked up a new frame from a member last year. I am now getting it ready to be galvanized.

The frame is relatively clean and is rot free. However, I know the crossmembers on these things are known to rot. What should I do to test a crossmember that looks solid? Should I cut a hole in the top and look inside? I can then reweld the plate back on.

Should I add drainage holes?

I am curious to hear your thoughts. I want to do this once, and right.

The front cross member should already have a drain hole in it. It really depends on what conditions the vehicle has been driven in before it's a concern. The water and debris can only enter from the side frame rails. If the rest of the frame looks solid, it's up to you what your approach should be.
