Outback Adventure - May/June 2018

Post by Peter60 »

I have had this on my list for a while - an outback adventure with some other G60s. I look longingly at the post of the previous Simpson Desert trip in 2016 - before I had my current G60s.

So I'm thinking of doing the Simpson Desert in May or June next year. I haven't done any real planning at this stage. The little I have read say that May/June/July (Oz Winter) is the best time to travel although it might be a bit cold at night.

It looks like the Simpson Desert crossing can take about 7 or so days, then there is the time in getting there and returning home. A lot of it still in the outback. So about 2 weeks plus is needed. It seems like the 60Patrol.com members are spread around Australia so the time required will vary.

I thought doing something similar to the previous Simpson Desert trip could work.

So initially are you interested in taking your G60 on such an adventure?

You will need the time, a fair amount of petrol money and a reliable G60 to participate!

Peter

Hi Michael Thanks, I didn't know.

I'm flexible in the timing - I guess anywhere between May and September would do. I'll wait and see if there is any interest from others before locking in a time.

I admire the way you dream. I'm with you in spirit. I can't wait till I get my mosheens reliable so I can start planning trips I don't see myself walking back from. I'm close.

Keep it notes from the field coming in!

Not a lot of response from the G60 community. So I have decided to go with some mates.

But as it turns out I have decided not to take my G60. I couldn't leave it in the desert if it broke down and the guys I'm travelling with have hi-spec 4WDs and not be very sympathetic to my old G60 (although it most likely will out perform them in the desert).

I'll do it again some other time with some other 'historic' 4WDs in the 4WD club I've joined.

We are currently planning leaving early June. Its a 5,500 kms round trip. That's about 3,500 miles. There is about 1,500 Kms (1,000 miles) of dirt/desert roads). The rest is sealed (black top) roads.

We are allowing about 3 weeks.

I decided to postpone the trip until next year.

Patrol isn't ready, moving house and some minor medical issues meant it's better to postpone the trip.

Next year will be my Patrolling year!

Dreams are the levers that lift our spirits. A year goes by in a blink.

In a year we will all be better prepared to double clutch for a round trip.

Patrolling with passion,
