60Patrol

Hey guys,

My patrols clutch has lost all weight and isnt engaging. The master cylinder is still full of fluid, and my clutch knowledge is limited but im keen to fix it. Its parked on a hill in low gear (its handbrake isnt too great) so its stranded till I sort it out.

Where sbould I start? Changing the slave cylinder?

By "isn't engaging" do you mean the clutch is always as if your foot is on it and pushing down, or always like your foot is NOT on it?

If the clutch master cyl is full, the slave cylinder is ok. The only thing that can fail in the slave is its one seal, which will dump the fluid onto the ground.

I have to disagree with it not being the slave. I have had the same thing happen on 2 different Patrols, and both times it was the slave cylinder. The master was still full. The slave was only slightly leaking. Easy rebuild of the slave and I was back in business.

Meaning that when you push your foot down theres no pressure and it doesnt engage the clutch.

ill try doing the slave cylinder and see if that helps things. I hope thats it!

I recently had a similar issue. The first thing we did was replace the slave. That didn't do the trick. So then we moved onto the master. It wasn't leaking, but it turned out the piston was stuck in the down position. I had ordered both a master and a slave replacement, so we popped in the new Master as well. I saved the old one as I think a quick tune-up will have it working again.... next time (which is hopefully a long time in the future).

So I just tried to replace the slave cylinder and and it was the wrong size. So I cleaned out the old one and put it back on.

There were no leaks at all in the system that I could see, master cylinder was still full of fluid, theres just no pressure when you push down the pedal.

So I'm going to attempt to replace the master cylinder, and i've confirmed it's the same 5/8th part. Is there anything to look out for? I've taken off the hose and the two bolts but the cylinder won't budge. Don't want to push it in case i'm missing something.

Also, once it's off, does the linkage just come out of the box the master is bolted to, or do you have to remove that whole box?

Give the cylinder a good shove or tap with a hammer. Years of gunk help cement it to the firewall. Before you do that though you need to disconnect the linkage pushrod from the clutch pedal inside the cab. Then the linkage will pull right out of the hole in the firewall. No need to remove the box, which isn't removable.
