Fender mounted mirror, installation advice?

After completing the body and paint on the 69, I am considering mounting the mirror on the right fender. Which means drilling holes, which may mean rust. Any thoughts on making this a rust proof install? Or should I just abandon the idea altogether? The other problem seems to be that this mirror would be a brush and branch magnet.

That was the original location for the right mirror. The correct fender should have reinforcement where the mirror mounts. Yes, that means rust. Yes, brush will catch it. You might look at using the FJ40 mirror that mounts on the windshield hinge. I've used these, and while brush does still grab them, they don't get torn off and are readily available if broken.

Thanks for the advice. The old reinforcement would have to be refabricated. I removed it during repair. But, maybe I'll just save the mirror stalk for a future owner.
