60Patrol

Just wanted to thank everyone for the opportunity to participate and especially for the great info. I just picked up two Patrols and have been busy getting one road ready. The information on this site has been invaluable and encouraging. One Patrol is a 69, white and all complete, minor rust. It was intended to be an engine donor for the 1967 but I have found it to be too nice to cannibalize. After a few days of tinkering it is almost road ready, aside from a broken rear spring. What to do with the 67 soft top? Heck, I guess I will just stare at it a while. Anyway, here is my first attempt at uploading photos.

The 69 is definitely a keeper. It's got some of the typical rust, but otherwise looks pretty unmolested. It's even got the original 15" split rims and rectangular front turn signals. The 67 looks like someone has put a lot of work into it, it will be a nice Patrol one day. The 69 can be a toy now tho.

Riverpatrol, you read my mind, thank you for the insight. I can't wait to get the 69 up in the Mountains, escorting us around the camp area. I plan on pulling the bumper from the 67 and putting it on the 69 so I can tow it up to the mountains (it is set up with a tow bar). My biggest worry is to not trash the 67. There has been a considerable amount of work put into it by someone. I do have the opportunity to pick up a third Patrol, which I could rip up for the remaining parts. Any thoughts would be appreciated. The 67 came with about 300 lbs of parts that were removed from it. Someone spent a bit of effort re-plating, painting, etc. The only things that are missing (as far as I can tell now) are the side windows, the engine, transmission,top, transfer case and probably some miscellaneous.

BTW, I have been toying with old metal for many years now. These Patrols have already given much pleasure. We got the 69 running and checked out all systems. No deficits in brakes, running gear, electrical, clutch, fuel....how cool is that?

Both are nice but I like the underdog 67 softy.....needs a different donor maybe.

Would it be too rude to put a modern fuel injected drive train in the 67? Maybe I should look for an SD33 turbo?

I say if you don't have the original drive train then by all means put whatever suits you in there. Once I finish this one I would like to find one without an engine to resto mod with a new drivetrain.

I like the SD33T idea. I believe all 1980 IH Scouts came with the SD33T.

Welcome from the PNW out Washington way. Nice pics. I'm also working on a '69, but have to say yours looks like it is in much better condition. It's a fun project and the club is fun and I'm sure you'll find everyone to be very helpful.

I like the idea of doing a Nissan VQ40DE or VQ35DE with the rest of the power train out of a frontier or xterra. Plenty of power and reliability. You can find those motors on eBay for around 2k, or probably less at a junkyard.... but then again, we're talking about your money... not mine
