Where's 2 WD ?

Where's 2 WD ?
Help !!! My 67 ( I think ) Patrol has been sitting for quite some time and I can't seem to disengage the 4 wheel drive. Can anyone tell me what position the 4WD shift levers should be in for 2 wheel drive ? ( forward, backwards,) Any help would be great ! Thanks, Shorty iisshorty@yahoo.com

It should be all the way forward for 2WD it go's like this from front to back 2WD, Netrual, High 4WD, Low 4WD.

Sometimes after it's been sitting for a while the shifters kinda lock up. I had that happen on one once. Had to get up in there and clean off the rust and lube the heck out of everything. The shifters are easier to get to if you take the inside trans cover off. On the twin stick transfer shifters: the left one is for low and hi. All the way forward on the left one is Low, middle is Neutral, back is High. All the way forward on the right shifter is Rear Drive, and back is 4W Drive. The diagram on the firewall looks kinda like this: Low Rear Drive o o | | o N | | | o o High 4W Drive The transmission has to be in neutral to shift the transfer.

I had the same thing happen to me when I got mine out of storage. Instead of taking off the cover I removed the detent bolts, they're the two bolts right above the lever shaft channels, and sprayed pentrating oil while gentling working the lever and then grease into. Watch out that you don't loose the springs an balls. It will take a while (1 hour). Bad part is you have to be an acrobat or take out the floor plates to get at then. have fun!

Also raise one front wheel and one rear wheel to relieve tension on the system, and then try to move the lever. Sometimes different diameters of tires between front and rear tires make it very difficult to dissengage the 4WD lever. Esteban
