60Patrol

Hello you guys, I wanted to keep the military 7.00 - 15's on the split rims but am sliding all over the place in this rain. Will keep the split rims but want to change out tires for BFG 32 x 11.50 x 15 All Terrain / AT or,,,,,,,,,,31 x 10.50 x 15 ( same ) or,,,,,,,,,,,33 x 10.50 x 15 ( same tire ) or something else. Could someone confirm that ALL of those will fit that stock split Rim and that ALL will not RUB anywhere on the Patrol? Thanks you guys for any assist. PLEASE,,,,,,,,,,give other suggestions on good All Terrain's for the Patrol that others have used. I am open to suggestions. I have just always gone with BFG. Mine is a 1969 L-60.
ALSO,,,,,,,,,,,I forgot about the YOKAHAMA Y742-S / 7.00R - 15 All Terrains. I used them on my 1962 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser Restoration and loved them. I think I might go with those but any advise or suggestions regarding the split rims or other choice tires would be appreciated. Thanks.

BTW, I understand that even NEW Military tires are not good on wet roads. Anyone have experience with them? New one's? Thanks.

I've run the Toyo LT tires without any problems on dirt, but I can't say I remember using them in the rain.

For a stock Patrol with the fenders intact you shouldn't go more than 31 x 8.5. I've run BFGs and Wranglers, both perform very nicely. Actually, I've never had a Patrol slip regardless of what tire was on it, even 10 year old dry rotted ones. In fact, this Patrol moved this shed in the rain on the old tires that it came with, without any slippage. The Patrol did what the Case skid steer tractor couldn't.

Leslie, Have you ever run those military 7.00 x 15 tires on any of your Patrols? Maybe mine, because they are so old and hard rubber, are slipping around but I spoke with the guy who sells them and he told me that even new ones are not good cornering in rain. One of the reasons I wanted to see what you guys had to say. I do not have any experience with them at all.

These are what I used on my 1962 FJ40. Since you mentioned going with an 8 then I will most likely go with these. I really liked them but again, open to suggestions. Measure twice, cut once. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... 0000443307

I have the 7.5 x 15 on one Patrol. That's the Toyo LT tire.

If I decide to change wheels altogether, go with solid rims and tubeless can someone tell me what is the closest solid rim to stock that I can purchase? Were solid rims and tubeless tires ever used on factory stock Patrols in 1969? I am thinking perhaps of changing everything to solid / tubeless. Just need to know what to buy. Am thinking it all through.

Hey Dave,
Tubeless tyres wouldn't have made an appearance on early Patrols. Solid rims were available (the years escape me right now) on some patrols.
I had a set of my original split rims converted to one piece wheels, let look great!

My 65 came with solid 16"rims. At least in Ecuador, until 1977 they all came with solid rims, and in 1978 some started appearing with split rims. Probably market dependent.
