Stay tuned, folks. I may have finally landed on a solution for the non-existant vacuum advance. If it works out, electronic ignition kits from Pertronics will be next.   I'll let you all know when I have the final details.

Okay folks, got the hot ticket for the vacuum advance problem. I sent 3 out to be rebuilt, and they came back beautiful! The place to send them to is:   Hiway Auto Parts, Inc. 1526 River Road Puyallup, WA 98371   253-845-7020   The vacuum advance for the Patrols is obsolete, you can't buy them any more. But the truck will run crappy when they're bad. So this is a great solution to the problem. It costs about $45 to rebuild one.

; $45 isnt bad at all. Specially considering the fact that the stock Datsun Z-Car vacuum advance diaphragm is $32 at its cheapest...

Hey Hoss,   I would be very surprised if your's is gone. You would have a very big hole in the front of your distributor that would create a huge vacuum leak. I don't know how the truck could even run if it were missing - but I've never tried that.   Take another look: it screws on to the front of the outside of the distributor, it kind of looks like a flying saucer with a vacuum fitting on the north end, and it's about 2 inches in diameter.

; i guarantee it ain't there because the last owner took it off and then used ; some sheet metal and screws to lock down the breaker plate the only advance i ; get is from the springs and weights and i have to advance it some while timing ; or it is a real dog no power that's why i have been looking for either a new ; dist. or vacuum module for a while now>

That truly sucks. There have been distributors on eBay sometimes. If you're desparate. let me know - I might be able to let go of a spare. It would need rebuilding, as well as the vacuum advance. Nothing major, mainly freeing up the breaker plate so it turns easily, new points and condensor - until the electronic ignition is available.

Hey Hoss - you're pretty close to some other active Patrol people. One in Klamath Falls and another around Bend area (I think). And if you or Vern are interested, there may still be available an entire Patrol rolling chassis in Spokane - for free!
