Front Seats

Post by alber garage »

Has anybody done a front seat swap in their patrol? I am considering trying to find a bench/bucket combo that will fit well. I am thinking of something like the picture below but there are endless examples of similar styles. The combination bench/bucket part is what I am specifically interested in.

I would really like to retain the existing metal "platform" that factory seats sits on top of so I am thinking that most seats will end up too tall without modifying the mounting hardware significantly.

Thanks,

Those seats would look great. The only caution is the depth of the seat should not be much deeper than the stock Patrol seat.
Does your Patrol currently have the original seats? I am looking for a set for my project.

I do have the original front seats. They aren't really ripped up but they aren't in particularly great condition either. I need to hang onto them at least until I find a replacement set that work for my application. After that I would be happy to part with them.

Thanks,
Steve

I have seen a few different types of front seats installed in a Patrol. I don't know of any one particularly favorable replacement. As zed mentions you want to be aware of the seat depth or seat cushion height; you will run out of room between the seat and the steering wheel real fast.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Michael:

How much would you want for them? I'd need to have them shipped to the USA, so you'll want to factor in some coordination time on your part.

My Patrol is a '69 and the under seat storage bin was removed by the previous owner, but would have it fabricated if I can find original seats.

Many years ago I went seat shopping in a junkyard for a 64 hard top I had. I took measurements and went shopping. I found some that fit real well from a Dahatsu, maybe it was a "Rocky" I don't recall exactly as it has been over 10yrs. I am 5ft 10" and 175lbs and they worked well for me. Here is a picture,

That is the only picture I still have where you can see the seats pretty good.

I am thinking I will do some aftermarket seats in my 77 Ute. I have a Mastercraft Rubicon rear bench seat sitting here that was for my 83 Patrol, it is a 36" wide seat. I measured the Ute and then looked at the Baja RS drivers seats to match it up. From my measurements, it looks like the set will fit absolutely perfect with maybe 1" to spare on either side. Only issue for me may be that I will have a rear PO shifter between the seats and may need more room for it then these seats allow. Really nice seats though and like I say, from my measurements are a perfect fit in a Patrol. You will have to make a custom bracket for these or any seat that is not stock in order to mount them up.

Here is the MasterCraft Baja RS drivers seat

And the bench seat, although this is a 40" wide.

I am not sure MC still makes the bench in a 36" wide. I am sure they will custom make any size though, you will have to figure that all out on your own and contact MC directly. I had 3G's in my 83 Patrol too, Master Craft makes very nice seats. I will see if I can set the Rubicon rear bench seat in the cab of the Ute so you can see how well it will fit. While made as a "rear" bench seat it will work great as a front passenger seat in a Patrol.

In my Land Cruiser I have ProCar and love them.

Great seats the Procar, done 15+ hrs of driving in the Cruiser with next to no fatigue.

Cheers
