Re: Jerry can holder
Good question. There was a factory jerry can holder offered for later Patrols. There is probably a picture in a brochure and/or parts book somewhere. They did look similar to this one.

This 1969 Patrol has the same holder.

Now, is this just a coincidence?

WOW! That is a strange coincidence. I have seen a couple others with the same holder in the same place, also the barn door on one of my parts Patrols has the four holes in it in the same spot.zed wrote:This 1969 Patrol has the same holder.

Re: Jerry can holder
My ambulance doors from my 64 also have the 4 + holes and a footman loop like what is holding up the strap. I always wondered what the loop was doing on the back of the door and that would explain it. Although my can holder is made in California it looks like the ones pictures.

Re: Jerry can holder
I think they were just a very common and popular accessory for off-road vehicles. They turn up on all sorts of old 4x4s.

....and it won't catch on fire when someone rear ends you! Gas needs to be stored up higher....like above the spare on a rack.
