positive ground night mares

i now have a 66 g60 with a wierd set of readings i have reversed polarity on amp guage on coil at battery what was once + should now be negative not the case i have 12+ at fuse block and 12- at say windshield wiper motor i use this as example becouse this is only electrical item i have that actually works besides the ignition switch it does start and run very well butt coil gets very hot very quick any  ideas my head hurts from beating it on dash about to forget gen and rewire for a alternator

Could be that your voltage regulator is wired wrong or shot.

This are probably the best and more concise instructions on how to convert from (+) to (-) ground I've ever seen. They are taken from the following link: http://www.morgan-spares.com/pages/Tech ... ative.html Convert positive (+) ground to negitive (-) ground •Disconnect battery •Switch wires on Amp Gauge •Switch cables on battery so that the negative terminal is now to ground •Switch wires on coil so that the negative terminal goes to the distributor •Re-polarize generator field: take wire from live (positive) source and touch it to field terminal 3 times. Should see small spark. Reconnect generator field wire•If Generator is in working condition and Ampmeter fluctuates wildly, not showing + charge, then voltage regulator will need to be replaced. This happens very rarely but sometimes the regulator keeps its old polarity and will not switch. My comment: the starter motor will always turn in the same direction, regardless of the polarity of the system. Esteban
