60Patrol

We're working with a new client who manufactures aftermarket floor mats/liners. Not WeatherTech, but a competitor of theirs and that same kind of idea (e.g. they make mat sets to fit specific vehicles).

I have not spoken to them about this yet and when I do, they may reject it out of hand. But I thought I see about asking them to make some for our Patrols. Obviously, much of it would depend on how many sets they would need to sell to make it worth their while. They could use my '69 Patrol for template-ing.

So I thought I would ask here if, by some chance I could get these guys to make some good quality rubber mat sets for the Patrol (and assuming we could get them to come in at a reasonable price), how many of you would be interested in buying a set?


A few questions to go along with this:

Are all years of 60 Patrols the same in terms of interior dimensions?

What would you guys consider a reasonable price point for the driver side, passenger side and the bed floor in the rear area? $75? Less? More?

Would love to get a sense from you guys if there is any interest. Like I said, this may be a total longshot and they may laugh at me for even asking. But if we got enough of us signed up (assuming the price point is right), they just might be willing to do a run.

So let me know what you guys think.

The floor dimensions pretty much stay the same on all the 60 series Patrols. There were some changes involving the trans cover footprint around '68.

Would these be plastic or carpeted?

Most all of what they make are rubberized, heavy duty mats meant to replace your factory carpeted mats to keep them in good shape.

So think something like the photo below.

Ive always used freebees from salvage yards or whoever. But I've also never had a new car or a vehicle that I've put thousands of hours and dollars into restoring. So considering that, I definitely plan on using mats in my trol and a custom fit would be very cool. I would be interested.
Maybe they could be dressed up a bit too, maybe incorporate Patrol or nissan in the same font as the rear emblem into the mould. Since I've never paid for a set, i couldn't say what a reasonable price should be. I cant see myself paying > 100, though.

I definitely plan on asking if they they can be Patrol branded in some way. And I agree with you on keeping it (hopefully well) south of $100.

I'll let you all know what I find out and if it's a possibility, we can go from there.

Im wondering which would be easier/more effective: asking someone to measure a stock set of mats (semi-unobtainium, right?) or just coming up with your own template?

Any owner of stock mats care to chime in on their (literally) shortcomings?

One other thought I had was a one piece mat for the front that allows for the ebrake/shifters, flowing over the trans hump to the passenger side. I had a carpet set like that for a crv I owned a few years ago, and put rubber cheapies on the passenger and drivers side floorboards over it.

I actually made a template of a set of floor mats for someone not too long ago. I could do it again.

One issue I see with the one-piece mat is that the shape of the trans hump changed slightly in '68 and then again in '69. That would require 3 versions. And then of course someone would buy the '69 floor mat when what they actually have is a 68-titled-as-a-69 and it wouldn't fit.

Tarnation! Well, it would be cool if it could work, lol. How big a change was it? I've browsed through some pics but its hard to discern the differences... I've got two trans humps (bactrian, right? Lol) but they appear to be the same design.

Good morning RiverPatrol, Where did this issue end up? I need a front floor mat for both patrols. Your template would work for me. I also need to cover a couple of holes in the transmission cover, one is for the PTO lever, if you have a solution for covering those holes it would appreciated as well.
