May 2008, 1973 Showcar at Watagans, NSW

This was the 1st real day I had taken this G60 offroad and quite a event it was !!!

I had fitted the GU wheels 33" and thought they had cleared OK, after about 1km into Daniels I realised they were rubbing.

As this car is my showcar, I was worried ended up swapping the 31" wheels from my mates GQ with the G60, this fixed my rubbing issue

Unfortunately I had damaged the rear panels, the rear right was only slightly bent, but the left was bent and the paint was also cracking off, really annoying as this car is mint and I shouldn’t be doing this to it.

Going down Daniels was ok but in a 35 year old without power steering, or power brakes, or low gearing and rebound stoppers on the front which limit wheel travel and sway bars front and rear was very very different then my GU.

Anyhow about 200m before the first creek there is a big diagonal rut, Got through it but the exit was very greasy, my back started sliding into the larger deeper rut, posing a real risk of rolling, after packing rocks to prevent slippage and mates hanging on the left side, we got through , but it was very tense, remember these car are quite skinny and high with little flex so it was hairy.

Other got through OK and then we hot the 1st creek crossing, Charlie in the white GQ tried but kept getting hung up o a root. After we ended up cutting it off and pulling other logs out he got other the root. But then got very stuck ¾ across. (We took the very left hand side route).

I ended up winching him out and we gave up and had turn around. We were now back at the diagonal rut and then we heard voices below. Ended up be the “The Guy From Nowhere” who had the G60 Ute !!! Go the G60s, they were stuck in the next mud hole and were hand winching out. We said we couldn’t et through the bog hole so couldn’t help, sorry guys and I really hope your not still there.

Anyhow the GQ straddled the large rut on the right and got out, I tried this route but slipped into the hole and then tried the diagonal, with OPEN diff this isn’t going to work. So winched myself out. The Rodeo straddled and we were out. After finally getting back up Daniels we were thirsty and hungry and went to Morisset Pub were you saw us.

I have a heap of Video to get up but here are the photo, not many so you will need to wait for video.

Steve
PS- Would liked to have done more but we were to stuffed after F'ing around getting stuck, etc etc, still we were in the bush from 9am to 1pm so not to bad

In this photo we were checking out the underside from Charlie trying to get through the bog hole, his skid plate, cross member directly under the driver door was peeled back, it's like two sheets of metal, well one was peeled back like a banana.

This is where we almost rolled her. Before this my rear was sliding into the rut which was deeper then it appears. The car was so unstable I was waiting

Amzing how loud the Bell Birds are on video

We had pulled some logs out and cut out a root, but still no go

Ok, I'm trying to shrink the larger files and join it all up. Having trouble with this.

This was the diagional rut which caught me up heading down, ended up winching out as iw as sliding back into the rut to your left
