Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

transmission fluid check?

; If you get under the car, and look at the gearbox, ; there will be a square headed bolt in the left hand side of the gearboxes ; 'sump'. Simply undo this. The fluid should be level with the bottom of the hole ; for that plug. Otherwise it's like mine with no oil, and ruined ; gaskets!; Brendan; ; ----- Original Message ----- ; From: ; Patrol ; Rookies ; To: Nissan Patrol Club ; Albuquerque ; Sent: Monday, February 10, 2003 10:37 ; AM; Subject: transmission fluid check?; ; ; ; ; New Message on Nissan Patrol ; Club Albuquerque; ; ; transmission fluid check?; ; ; ; Reply; ; ; ; ;  ; Reply to Sender   Recommend ; Message 1 in ; Discussion ; ; ; ; ; ; From: Patrol Rookies ; ; ; Have searched but can't figure out how to check the ; transmission fluid! transmission fluid check?

actually there is a dipstick located on the top of the tranny. The access hole should be in the center hump in the cab, it will be to the right side of the hump just to the left of the hi-low/4wd shifters. I have seen some Patrols that lacked an acess hole, one of mine was this way, I have no idea why it lacks the hole but all should have the dip stick on top of the tranny.   Ian

; Actually I think I noticed something like a ; dipstick on mine when I was looking for the reverse light switch (which I still ; havent (bothered to) found. Decided I'm going to have to sell my patrol anyway, ; as the gearbox needs replacing and will cost the value of the car to ; fix.Brendan; ; ----- Original Message ----- ; From: ; Fud ; ; To: Nissan Patrol Club ; Albuquerque ; Sent: Monday, February 10, 2003 11:35 ; AM; Subject: Re: transmission fluid ; check?; ; ; ; ; New Message on Nissan Patrol ; Club Albuquerque; ; ; transmission fluid check?; ; ; ; Reply; ; ; ; ;  ; Reply to Sender   Recommend ; Message 3 in ; Discussion ; ; ; ; ; ; From: Fud ; ; ; actually there is a dipstick located on the top of the ; tranny. There is a dip-stick level indicator on the top, front left (not sure if it can be reached without taking off the 'hump-cover' though.
