Replacement Roof

The roof of my '69 Patrol roof (top only) has rusted through along the front edge. Anyne know of available replacements or aftermarket fiberglass ones. Any body work experts have an opinion of someone's potential for rebuilding it?

Joel, I work at a body shop and my Patrol had the same problem. Yes, a competent body shop can fix it. The problem with most shops is that they don't like to take on jobs like that. Your best bet is to find one that will work with you, or try a restoration shop. They work on older stuff all the time and may be more helpful than your run-of the- mill body shop.

Like he says a good body shop should be able to fix it. If you can get tem to work on it.

My thanks to Gary, J. Mattison, Dave, and Steevo for your replies and good ideas. ; ; Wish a fiberglass one existed, but I'm sure the quantities in demand wouldn't justify the investment in molds etc. Cost would be prohibitive.; ; Joel

I just talked to a guy who took an old Meyers steel cab off an old Jeep and altered it to fit his Patrol, if you can weld, this sounded easy, needed to be lengthened 7 inces, shortened 3 inches, and a new edge put on to fit the windsheild. Has anyone tried a Land Cruiser top? They look sooooooo similar. The top part of the top is removeable like on Patrols but is made of fiberglass, the sides of the top are steel. Worth looking into I suppose.

Depending on how severe the rust thru is (i.e. entire front length or just a section) you can stop the rust and fill the hole(s) using POR-15. Many Jeepers use this stuff to do exactly what your looking at doing. It dries hard as concrete but is impervious to UV, so it needs to be painted over. Awesome stuff and very easy to use (much cheaper than paying someone to cut it out and weld in a patch or similar. It's available online.Good Luck,David
