front fender flares

Really old stuff that got saved. Here are the old Nissan Patrol Club America messages from the 'General' category. Warning, it's dusty in here!

Hi there Willie   A company in Australia called FRP (Fibreglass Replacement Panels) does them and export all the time. They are available as a whole set for A$149 or A$88 for the front only. Considering the favourable exchange rate you guys enjoy of our dollar that the moment (A$1 = US$0.54) - this is pretty cheap!   Details: 42 High St Kippa-Ring, QLD 4021 Australia   +617 3883-1301 (Ph) +617 3883-2146 (Fx) frp@australiantrading.com www.workin4u.com/frp   Hope that this helps Chris

Let's have a cheer for the Aussies!  These guys are great.  We realy appreciate all your help.  Your great nation had the wisdom to appreciate the Patrol enough to keep it alive while we let it go back in 1969.  What were we thinking?  Thanks again and nice work on the Olympic Games.  One day we'll make a pilgrimage to the true land of the Patrol!

Thanks for the kind words Derryl.   It's a pity you let the Patrol go as a nation. Here in Australia we have two main contenders for the "King Off the Road" prize. They are the Toyota LandCruiser 80 & 100-series - and the Patrol GQ and GU. All the rest pale into insignificance when the going gets really rough. Being a Nissan man, I really enjoy it when the Patrol constantly surprises the guys in our club who swear by the Toyotas. My GQ is damn near indestructible, and gets an absolute flogging every weekend. I am entered into the "Cross-Country Nissan Trials" in 3 weeks. This event is set up by the NSW Nissan Patrol Owner's Club, and is generally considered the top technical event in the country every year. The great thing is that the Toyota Club acts as ushers and recovery personnel for the event - just a great thing.   It's a pity that Americal steel doesn't do well here. There are a few Jeep Wranglers and Cherokee's running around, but none are really competitive, and accessories are hard to find in comparison to the Patrol and Cruiser. Japan comes to Australia to design their latest machines, as we are their largest 4WD market. The only other American 4X4 available is the Ford Explorer. It has a really bad reputation for breaking easily, no suspension to speak of and is considered unreliable - go figure considering that it is your top-seller!   If you need anything Patroll-ish that's available in this country, let me know and I'll see if I can track it down. Just one word of warning though - our Nissan dealers don't carry parts for the 60-series any more. There have been so many models available since them that it doesn't seem to be worth their while. I will, however, be going around to all the dealers and asking if they have any spares sitting on shelves that they want to get rid of for a bulk deal.   Cheers   Chris

G'day Chris, It's great to see another Aussie on board. I used to be the secretary of the Nissan 4x4 Club in Victoria back in the early 90's. It's cool when you watch the Landcruiser guys eat crow when they find out that "Our Patrols" are better. Unfortunatly Nissan over here likes to sell the "SOFT" stuff. I was going to export my 1981 MQ over but it was getting a little old so I decided against it. The Landcruiser guys over here seem to be a little more sympathetic to the Patrol guys as there isn't that many Cruisers over here either. As far as fender flares go contact any off-road store and look at an ARB catalog. If you can't get one call me at 1-800-548-4500 (7.30-4.30 pacific time) and I can fax a picture. ARB has flexable rubber flares that I had on my G60 and they seemed to work great. Darren.

Yeah Darren, that's correct. Bushranger Products sell flexi flares which are rubber with a steel wire running along the edge to keep them up and not end up droopy. The guys at FRP sell fibreglass moulded ones which may suit better though.   On another point - you were pres. of the Vic Nissan Club? Cool! I was almost going to join them a couple of years ago, but a move to Victoria didn;t come through. I'm with the Bong Bong 4WD Club out of Picton near Sydney. Got a few people interested in crossing the line to Patrols, and the tide is turning - believe it or not. We have about six new members joining shortly who all own Patrols. Should get the lips flapping amongst the Toyota guys. We'll also see how my GQ goes against the Cruisers (even my team mates!!!) at the Nissan Trials in November up at the Colo River.   Cheers   Chris

G'day Chris and Aussie (and anyone else reading), I'm from Tallangatta Victoria. It's great to finally find a site for 60 series Patrols. I've spent a while looking for a site and only stumbled across this one this evening. I have found other people from Aust. & NZ on the net trying to find a site dedicated to these vehicles. Is it possible to advertise this site more effectively......maybe as a link from another site?   It's really great to find so much information and see what other people are doing with their Patrols.   Regards Richard

G'Day Richard   Yeah, it's great to see this site and the way it serves as a bit of a G60 standard. I agree that there are plenty of Aussies and Kiwi's trying to find something about these great old machines, given that there are still plenty of them around - in some form or other. We should try to post a bit of info on the Sofcom site, probably from the G60 page itself. Sofcom is generally pretty loose with its links, so I'll give it a go by approaching them tonight.   Happy Patrolling in ye 'ol Vic   Chris

Hi there Gary!   Well, I've just slept off some really sore muscles and a headache from hell after the Nissan Trials in Colo Heights, just Northwest of Sydney. There were 75 competitors from 15 teams (of 5 cars each), and about a thousand wildly cheering spectators. There were three classes - Production, Production Modified and Super Modified, and the action was spead over two days and nine different events to test us and our machines.   I was put into Production (as unlike most of the competitors, I use my 4WD for day to day commuting and touring) and gave them a really good showing - considering it was my navigator's and my first time in this level of competition! We did very well in the natural terrain type events, and not as well as the Super Modifieds in the man made obstacle courses, given that at just 4" worth of lift on my car (still within "normal" limits) wasn't going to cut the mustard when they were lifted anywhere from 12" to 18"!!!!! You still wouldn't call them "monster trucks" like you guys have over there, but they still had some inherent problems with turning circles and top-heavyness.   The Nissan Patrols (in any configuration) were definitely the crowd pleaser, and even if another competitor was on the course from another team, the crowd would all be yelling " GO PATROL!!!!!!!!!!!!" at the top of their lungs. I've never heard a few hundred people yelling for me as I bumped and ground around a course. It was a real rush.   Nevertheless, we didn't come in the places, but had a phenomenal time anyway. I'll be posting some photos as soon as I can in another album on this site. We have some absolute rippers.   Cheers   Chris
