Rims

I'm thinking of buying a set of original rims for my '67 Patrol, but I'm not sure if it came with the 16" one piece or 15" split rims originally. Can anyone shed some light on which year Nissan switched to the split rims? I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me on this. Thanks. -Joe W.

My '67 was completely original and it had the split rims on it. Hope that helps

Everything OEM I've ever seen had split rims. The 16 inch diameter came from '62 to '65 and the 15 inch diameter from '66 to '69. Take a look at some of the brochures in the Patrol Info section. They should have more details. David

My patrol has toyota rims (eighties 4x4) on it but it did come with the old split rims too. I thought i had heard them refered to as Widow Makers! Now i don't want to get rid of my split rims but with a name like that i am in no hurry to put em on!

Yeah. I'm happy with my rims as well, but I would like to have a set of the split rims for originality sake. I've also heard they're a bit dangerous. Thanks. -Joe

For an original car on display? My '69 had 16 " rims w/ 6.00 X 16 tires. For all other practical matters go with any 6 lug with a large enough center hole.Chevy, Toyota etc. I have chorme Toyota Forerunner rims on mine. Here in California the split rims cannot legally be sold because they are so dangerous, plus the tire dealers charge $25.00 extra per rim to mount tires. They are also very heavy which only adds to unsprung weight. A no-no in offroad or preformance cars. Good luck.

Hey Gary, Thanks for the additional info. I don't plan on putting the split rims on unless I convert my Patrol from the everyday driver it is right now to a once or twice on the weekend car. I've got a load of other mechanical priorities right now, i.e., conversion to dual master brake cylinder, possible engine rebuild (I've got a little blowby), etc. I've also got some surface rust that needs attention. The body's straight and the rust isn't that bad though. The interior is also in great shape and original. It's just nice to have the original equipment for the vehicle and make it as complete as possible. -Joe
