[HELP] NEED VALVE SPRINGS and LIFTERS

Post by npca-grant »

Hey Gang!   Well, Im in a bit of a bind! I took my PATROL in today to get the engine re-build.   My plan was to use MOTORPOWER's P-40 rebuild kit. Problem is MOTORPOWER can not get the valve springs anymore, and, MOTORPOWER *thinks* that the lifters they sell wont work with the old NISSAN P engine. That is they seem to recal someone getting the kit for a PATROL and noting that everything was fine, except that the lifters didnt work.   In light of all that, a week ago I ordered valve springs and lifters from nissanautoparts.com. They show the parts as still valid, but, they are on a national back order. Thus, they dont know how long it will be before they come in!   In short, I dont want the engine rebuild to stall waiting for these parts... Does anyone know where they can get these parts ASAP? Or does anyone know of any aftermarket parts that will work in place of the orginals?   Any info would be great, thanks gang!   Grant

Call a fork lift repair and parts house. Its the same motor that's in an older Nissan and Kamatsu fork lift. I have been able to get most any engine parts from such places. (PPU 241 engine) I'm new to the group so this may be old news to you guys, hope it helps? Jim Q.>Hey Gang! Well, Im in a bit of a bind! I took my PATROL in today to get the >engine re-build. Hey Jim!   >>Call a fork lift repair and parts house. Its the same motor >>that's in an older Nissan   MOTORPOWER is a fork lift engine type o place. There are slight differences between the forklift "P-40" and the PATROL "P" engine. The oil filter, and, not sure, but I think the lifters are different too. At least that is what the guys at MOTORPOWER said.   >>and Kamatsu fork lift.   Hmmm that is news to me. What is this Kamatsu? Is it a name of a NISSAN forklift, or is it a forklift company that uses NISSAN engines?   >>I have been able to get most any engine parts from >>such places.   Ever get lifters or valve springs?   >>(PPU 241 engine)   Is that the name of the Kamatsu version of the P40?   >>I'm new to the group so this may be >>old news to you guys, hope it helps?   Some old, some new, all good! Oh, welcome to the group! And thanks for the info!   Grant

You might try crane cams and try to match some spring's. Just a thought. Willie

I took my engine to a great machinest in sacramento ca. He was able to use get my patrol head in great shape. You may want to call him. It is Rods Engine and Machine Shop on Franklin Blvd in Sacramento CA. You may be able to ship the head to him and have him work on it. He has specialized in just rebuilds for years. He used standard parts on mine. Not sure Im no mechanic.       Mark

Hey Mark!   >>I took my engine to a great machinest >>in sacramento ca. He was able to use >>get my patrol head in great shape. You>>may want to call him. It is Rods Engine>>and Machine Shop on Franklin Blvd in >>Sacramento CA.   Roger, thanks a mill! Say... you wouldnt happen to have his number would you? Just encase the operator cant find it?   >>You may be able to ship the head to >>him and have him work on it. He has >>specialized in just rebuilds for >>years. He used standard parts on >>mine. Not sure Im no mechanic.   Well, the guy here is a good mechanic too, when he has the parts to work with. Which I dont, The lifters may be able to be reused, but the springs really need to be replaced... Say, do you know off hand if you got new springs? And if so... do you happen to know what springs he used, where he got them from? The part number? Or did he use your old springs? God... how long ago was it you had it done? Would he remember you, and if *you* asked would he give you the info, ie part number of the springs, where he got them, etc? Thanks again for the info!   Grant

Hey N2GRASS   Well talked to Rod today, he said he re-build your head, made the hard seats, ground the valuves... but he check the tension on the springs and they were fine, thus he reused them. So, no new sorce of parts yet... The guy doing my engine is going to look into finding *other* springs for me, in that the ones I ordered from NISSAN are *still* on national back order. If he finds a comprable spring Ill add it to the comp parts list. Take care and thanks for the info!   Grant
