Greetings from the 50 yard line,

We are about half way towards the Patrol goal line with (Command & Control Vehicle 5) CCV5.

My full resources are being brought to bear on CCV5 next week. I am bringing my master mechanic/fabricator up from Corpus to help Rafael assemble the gears, axles, brakes, motor and suspension that has been laying around for six months. I have another mechanic dedicated to removing the electrical off both interior motor well side panels, replacing the panels from some 2869ral sent me, then put everything back on and get that motor firing again.

The body, which has serious rust, will be addressed next year.

I'll just be in the way as monkeys make better use of their digits than I do so I'll be in meetings in beautiful Saginaw, MI probably wearing mukluks.

Patrolling to Paradise,

Greetings this Christmas Season.
Santa and his helpers are busy making progress on CCV5. Daniel from Corpus is installing the inner fender wells Ron sent me while Rafael is working on the suspension, brakes and gears.
Here are a few pictures from their work.
Patrolling with freshly painted parts,

Here are the latest pictures. Here you see:
A). Replacement inner fender well metal
B). Refurbished water pump and radiator
C). New High Output Alternator

The plan is to complete the Petronix conversion Alcan spring replacement, fuel tank rehab, complete brake system then get it running for the Big Bend Rally in February. Phase II will include replacing most of the body panels.

Jingle Bells,

Do you have the specs you gave to Alcan for your rear springs? The rear ones I had made are short and we cant figure out why. When I measure my old ones I got 23" from center of front eye to the center bolt and 27" from center of rear eye to center bolt. But that leaves me with about 3" too short to make my shackles sit close to 90 degrees. The rear part of the spring is actually sitting on the frame!

I had a similar problem but not as extreme - manufacturer added lift ( camber ) without allowing for the reduction in the eye-to-eye measurement. Can't see from your photo if that might be your issue or not...

good luck !

Well, you both make good points. We are just getting to the that point so I don't know if mine are too short. I'll follow up in a few days.

Justin, Good natured Rafael went out into his shop and worked pretty late to fit up our rear leaf springs so we could determine if we had the same problem. We do not.
Now, I didn't provide the specs ....... Alcan had them. But...maybe this makes a difference.....I requested the "soft ride package". This de-rates the spring stiffness from OEM specs designed to military specs to something less jarring under civilian loads.
Which are yours?
Patrolling someday,
David

Here are pictures. Maybe the shackles Ron made for me are spanning the shortage?

Your shackles are not a stock length which I think may be the reason yours fit better. Mine where stock replacement lengths and I had the put a 2" lift into the spring. He said that he added length to compensate for the lift but it doesn't seem as if he really did.
