I'll have this done soon but I need help with part of the design.

I thought I would use snaps along the top horizontal but then velcro or fastex "D"'s or buckles as to cinch a bit, expansion/contraction happens. I should mention I have had plans to make tan vinyl sides and rear panels with 20 gauge clear vinyl windows. They could velcro or snap onto bottom edge of the vinyl, lapped. My goal here is to keep the majority of rain out.

This rod runs through a length of tubular webbing sewn underneath and utilizes the existing hardtop mount holes.


The way it is looking it should work even to drive at slower speeds. I started to wonder if it may be better to use 1" webbing with a fastex adjuster right down to the outside of the tub. These vert straps could then be on the outside of the side panels keeping them tight also. The vert strips seen are just backing in prep for some webbing.

The big Q is.....will the vert strap flap like crazy or just a bit?

Good looking design, nice tie in with the existing holes. I think the rear straps would flap around though, hmm not sure...

I have made progress with the top but want to show off my door panel pocket/drink holder. The glove box is not enough!!! Snap on, snap off. Elastic in the drink holder....big enough for a 1 liter bottle of water.
I set out to make a pocket and it evolved.

I took Estebans advice and resource on the dry filters. I contact cemented the two together first. The green prefilter is along the same color lines so I used them. They were so tight that I had to remove the assembly and bare down with everything I had to close it and it still had an 1/8" gap between top and bottom......no matter the filter is sealed. The shot shows it only set on. I noticed a 2 1/2" version of this filter, this is 2-3" tall versions but I believe a 2 1/2" + 3" better. While off, I did a rattle can (Dupli-Color engine enamel #DE1618 Detroit Deisel Alpine Green and FYI, Miksum tried Krylon "celery") job on the housing. Not Nissan color but better than what it was.
I am still hunting down any problems with my carb/fuel line. Cleaned out lines and fuel pump with compressed air and just made sure the basics are square. I will work on it more later.
Also, adjusted front brakes, they were pulling a bit.

Hell yeah those pockets are great! Well done mate! Thought I might have seen a Bud Lite or similar in the drink holder then I remembered your open container laws

Dave, do you think that the pre filter will clean up well enough to just change that out and never have to change the main filters? having to buy two of those looked pricey , especially if they were changed with every oil change

i like it though and will probably go that route. i have never taken my filter apart to see if i even have enough oil in there

Dave, the idea of the pockets and how they attach is very clever. They also look "period correct". You are an inventive and resourceful guy.

And your air filter look tops. Sleepyzzz mentioned about the cost, but I understand that they are inexpensive.

Is the pre-filter foam supposed to be oiled? Also, is there a need to glue the two filters together to prevent displacement?
