Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
Thank you. Please recall we have yet to drive it 100'. So does it work automatically?

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
Esteban & Justin, you are 100% correct. We found the toggle on the dash, which until now we did not understand, that activates the STAGING DEVICE. Once we get to checking a few more things out we can tell you how it works but it appears to be a really good substitute for the OEM emergency brake.
Thank for your quick responses.

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
So does anyone else's distributor look like this. The good news is that I was already planning to switch over to the Petronix.
I guess leaving it out in the rain with the hood off for six months is not a good idea. Just another reminder of my BAM slam

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
Ew, that's ugly.
Don't throw it away though, it can probably be salvaged. I think I actually have some NOS internals for it buried somewhere.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
Thanks for your advice again. I have two of them if anyone needs them. One from The Green Machine should be pretty good.

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
I will have pictures this week but please know the light package being sold from Columbia is better than nothing but the rear lights are not correct and they lack a mounting plate/gasket so they fit flush with the sheet metal.

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
I just returned from Presidio Patrol. Everything is coming together. The Warne winch and single wire alternator are the last serious items. Ray says it runs real smooth. I am very thankful for all the help from this forum, RiverPatrol, 2869ral, jwgreen, flagonni , Esteban, moore_rb, mdawg4x4, eric and others who threw a line to me when I was stuck in the mud.
Before I forget I will try to summarize some of the things I learned along the way with both Patrols.
a). Start with a Patrol with as little rust as possible.
b). Follow the forum advice, it is irreplaceable.
c). Keep the original suspension geometry. Resist the urge to lift.
d). Alcan delivered a small lift with the new leaf springs. They are good to work with.
e). 15" rims offer many more tire options. If possible, get away from split rims.
f). Chasco in SA can get almost any wiper motor running again.
g). Patrols came with several sized fuel tanks. Know which size you need. The OEM tank has a coating on the inside that comes off and clogs up lines and filters.
h). Clutches and brake cylinders come from Australia.
i). 4WD in Australia has parts but the sales team can not be depended on to send the right part. Source the part from the forum, then email 4 WD and tell them exactly what you are looking for.
j). Parts are available, you just need patience, money and advice from the forum.
k). The Gauge Guys can rebuild dash gauges to new condition.
l). Order your wide pulley at the same time as your single line alternator.
m). The emergency brake pad isn't difficult to have re-surfaced.
n). I had both the VC42 Hitachi and Rochester B carbs rebuilt here in Texas.
o). My seats were recovered with "the thickest marine grade" vinyl available but is thin, expensive and totally unacceptable.
p). The cargo bay is very limiting, I bought a 1.5 ton military trailer to haul camping gear into the sunset
q). The radiators are very well made.
r). The small "U" shaped recirculation hose can be sourced. The lower hose with the outlet for the heater is hard to replace.
s). The best modification was the switch/upgrade to the Petronix electronic ignition. The pictures and text of this upgrade as well as to all the upgrades allowed mechanics who had never heard of a Patrol make the connections.
Lastly, if you can't find something .....this forum is loaded with givers. If you can find it then Ron (2869ral) can make it.
Thanks to all and we beginning Patrolling with Presidio Patrol (CCV4) this weekend.
