NAH.... I'm gonna be around for awhile... The red one is going to take me 3x as long to finish - that one will probably be getting the "Sierra Patrol" treatment- 8-)

Have you ever had one of those days where you walk out into the garage, expecting to make some small spacers to use for settting your output shaft at -6 degrees, so that it can line up with your new rear pinion angle of +6 degrees, but when you slide under your Patrol on your creeper and start unbolting the engine and transmission mounts, you realize that the rubber in one of the rear mounts has broken...?

and so, you put the jack under the transfer case and unbolt the rear mounts, and then you think "I need more room to work in here" and the next thing you know, the transmission, transfer case, and PTO are all laying on the driveway...

And, not content to stop there, you decide " Well, I've already unbolted everything, I might as well unhook these 3 wires, and two radiator hoses and just take this grill off, and then...:

Leaving this :

You ever have one of those days? Well I did today....

And I STILL haven't made those spacers to set the pinion angle yet... :? I guess my test drive is going wait a few more weeks. :geek:

Doh!

Well, on the bright side, I had been a bit worried that the back of the head and valve cover were never going to get fair their share of blue paint!

Hey Robert,

You can still buy those rear mounts brand new!! Old part # 11328-44002 new 11328-C4200. Here's a link to a place
http://www.nissanpartszone.com/parts/ni ... 44002.html

I usually have one of those days with all my projects because if I see something small that needs attention I usually cant leave it alone and the small project turns into an all out rebuild!!!

I totally get it. Maybe not to this extreme, but I get it. ;)

I've give you a hint- When I saw this yesterday, my immediate thought was: SCORE! Finally something I don't have to tear down and refurbish on this Patrol...! 8-)

Flywheel, pressure plate & clutch.

But... I'll wager a box of Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies that you won't be able to resist taking it off to inspect it ;-)

You win...

I took a look at the pressure plate, disk and flywheel yesterday afternoon - the flywheel still had lap marks on it from the last time it was resurfaced, and the disk was clean, flat and was 14.8mm (factory spec is 15mm, so virtually no wear on it at all)

The pressure plate springs all looked good, and the plate had 2 minor blue spots where it looked like some sand might have gotten caught between the disk and the plate, so I cleaned those spots up with some emory cloth and buttoned everything back up.

Then I taped up all the openings on the engine and bellhousing, slopped a bunch of chemical stripper over the entire assembly, and let it soak for an hour before going to town on it with the pressure washer...

NOTE to all you Patrol owners- If you feel like your Patrol's performance is too sluggish (even for a 50 year old tractor engine), then you MIGHT want to consider removing the 600 pounds of extra paint that your engine might be wearing

I counted 4 layers on this engine block, and 4 layers (of different colors, lol) on the clutch bellhousing - my driveway looked like a confetti factory after I was done with all the stripping, scraping, and pressure washing.

and the best part is that I'll get to go it all AGAIN on the tranny, transfer gear, and PTO
