Anyone tried this supplier?
That kit will fit the non-waterproof distributor. Seems similar in principle to the Pertronix a a bit cheaper.

The Pertronix on the other hand has been thoroughly tested: both versions.

ShowMe,
This may be known but you can ID Patrol waterprotect dizzys by the 3-screws cap fasteners ( "bakelite" color cap) vs the non-waterprotect clip type cap (I think always black). :? :? :?
When I bought mine I did read up and pertronix does recommend upgrading your coil. I was sold. They had a deal at the time to buy the flame thrower coil and a module for one price.....I forget....ask the retailers and shop. :D

Great pictures! Thanks for posting them up. :banana-dance: Lots to contemplate there.

It's got a bit more rust issues than it looked like it had in the cg pics, but still very salvageable. The right fender mirror mount is a big rust magnet, as is the rear of the tub above the tail lights. Another very susceptible area is in front of the rear tires where the seat belt mounts to the tub.

But other than that this will be an easy project. Almost everything is still there. You've got the original rims, the tattered upholstery is original so it will be easy for an upholstery shop to duplicate it. There rear seats are in awesome condition. I didn't see a pic of the inside of the glove box so I can't tell if the original map light is still there. You've got both sun visors. You got the windshield washer bottle. If the pump doesn't work you can usually take it apart and free it up. It looks like you might still have the original reverse light: the mounting bracket is there in the left bumperette.

How many miles are on it?

Someone got very creative with the carburetor. That is not original. I can't figure out what they were trying to accomplish with the fresh air snout bolted to the intake; it's supposed to be on the radiator shroud, which is one thing that is missing. It's always a mind bender trying to figure out why someone did what they did to a vehicle. They also got very creative with your heater hoses; those are not routed correctly.

If you could get a few more pictures I can put your Patrol in the US Patrol registry. I need pictures of the engine number, the frame number and the VIN plate that should be on the left door 'B' post. The engine number is at about 5:00 from the carb looking at the right side of the engine, on the little ledge on the block. I tried zooming in on your picture but there's too much dirt. The frame number is on the top of the frame rail right below where that long heater hose droops down.

It's going to be great to see this Patrol running. You've got a lot of will power holding back from getting ahead of yourself, I couldn't do it. Personally, when I get a Patrol I dive right in to trying to get it to run, then I address the maintenance stuff. The engines are built so tough that they are very forgiving to neglect. I am there within hours with a new battery and fresh gas trying to get it started. Even by just cranking it over I can tell a lot about what it might need. But especially if I get one like this one, where everything is in place i.e. plug wires, fuel lines, water hoses, distributor cap, etc - this is an indication that it was running when it was parked, so it should start up relatively easily. But when the distributor cap is off and everything from the carb is disconnected - that's a sure indication that someone was troubleshooting and gave up. Then I start from scratch.

Keep us posted!

Thanks.....

I went out and check the glove compartment. Yes, the original map light is in the holder.....:) I think there are 86,XXX miles on it. Yes, I did a double take with the carb. I looked at the manual last night and a few pics on here to verify it wasnt the original. The snout was another head scratcher as well as the heater hose arrangement. I took another pic of the hoses at the thermostat housing to check the proper routing. I will take a few more pictures of the Patrol numbers and get them to you. I need to wire brush the number stamped on the engine. I still cant make it out after pressure washing the engine. As far as the will power goes, it is being spread between the Patrol and a ton of maint items Im replacing on the Volvo Penta boat engine (4.3L) and outdrive. As soon as I get the boat back in service, the Patrol will be top priority.

After placing fogging oil in the cylinders and turning it over by hand, I put a battery on it, put a little gas in the carb and turned the new ignition key. It turned over and almost started. I did this several times just to keep the grin on my face......:) If I replace the plugs, Im sure it will start. Need to check why the original fuel pump was bypassed or purchased an electric pump. While turning it over several times and it kinda sorta running for a brief second, I did notice oil was coming from the timing cover seal and antifreeze was coming from the water pump. Just observations. What brand and number spark plugs do you use in your Patrol?
