Well, if you want to do it just because "we can", then lets get serious and shave the head down to yield 9:1 compression, re-grind the cam to a 112 degree lobe separation angle and 220 degrees of duration at .050 lift, and make a nice "square" Model P engine that makes 225 lbft of torque, AND 225 horsepower... 8-)

I think you could plumb the return line without drilling the tank.... you could run it to the fuel neck, and tee it into the vent tube

I looked at the megasquirt kit as well... it does look like fun.

Esteban- your suggestion about using P40 manifolds is a GREAT idea ! It never occurred to me that the P40 intake will bolt to the P engine, and has a 2 barrel opening ...

After I had pretty much talked myself out of the fuel injection idea, I did still plan to upgrade to a 2 barrel Weber carb, and the P40 intake would be perfect for that modification as well...

And I think there is an old forklift scrap yard about 20 miles from my house... I should call them and see if they have any P40's lying about...

If that yard has P40 intakes -- pick up two... One for you and one for a friend! ;-)

You'll need the combo intake/exhaust manifolds. My brother has them installed and are a perfect fit.

Go to post #5. David_S is the guy that did the conversion. Might need to contact him for the original write-up, now lost.

Good luck in your quest. A very challenging project certainly.

.
Do you need both manifolds because the heat-riser is different?... is there any other reason that we would to need to source both manifolds?

Reason I ask is that I would probably block the heat riser on the intake manifold, and use a Header for the exhaust... 8-)

Is it already fuel injected? Didn't think so... ;-) The MicroSquirt with throttle body injection would work just as well on that as it will on the P.

Well excuse me. Actually 292s are notorious for bad fuel economy so that would probably save me some money in the long run. But Im going to eventually rebuild my original engine and reinstall it. So until then you guys can be the guinea pigs. :D but i would bet it turns out nice. :D

I pulled the trigger... I just ordered the MicroSquirt II Kit and the simulator from diyautotune.com. $358.70 on my doorstep in a few days. :D

They are totally different and can't mix parts. The intake manifold sits lower (the carb) with each pipe in an upward position going into the head.

Will try to get a picture.

John, you're fast with your decisions!

I decided to to a little testing this morning -- I pulled the spare off the '67 soft top and gave it a test-fit on the orange '67. The tire is a 33x10 in perfect condition. Probably less than 30-miles on them. Perfect condition... except that these particular tires are somewhere around 1500 years old. Anyway, it looks pretty good on the front. Not as much clearance as I think should be there -- it could rub on big bumps.
3658

Now for the back... Same tire. Uh, um, nope. It's sitting about 1/2" from hitting the fender... and it's still 1-1/2" BELOW the wheel studs! There is no way this tire will even go onto the rear for a test-fit!
3657

Wanna know why? Because the Patrol rides on the flattest rear leaf springs EVER!
3659

Odd -- The orange patrol has five leaves in back while the soft top has six. Anyway, looks like I need to come up with a leaf spring solution for this beast!

Happy Saturday!
John
