Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Eddie the Eagle has received the critical missing parts for the motor. We tried yesterday but two failed coils later we had to reboot today with a new 3rd coil.
Wow! It ran more smooth and any previous Patrol. Now we move onto brakes, suspension and everything else.
In the meantime I’ve learned a lot about coils. We should only use those with an internal capacitor!
Then I learn it is much safer to start/test motors with carb cleaner rather than starting fluid.
So far:
- PerTronix installed
- Rebuilt Distributor with Spindle
- Rebuilt Rochester Carb
- Unfroze Throttle Cables
- Compression Test
- Water Pressure Test
Next
- Install Alternator
- New Water Hoses & New Fan Blade
- Move Battery back to original position
- Complete Brake Rehab
- Complete Fuel Line and Tank Rehab
- Rearc Leaf Springs, add Leaf
- Bearing Inspection
- E Brake Relined
Later
- Add PTO
- Seats
- Paint
- Gauges
Well at least we have a plan.

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Eddie has been making progress on this Patrol. It will finished out as a Super Commando. I plan to have it ready for field testing this summer. Then full use on the 06 Ranch this September.
Work Completed:
- Battery back under the driver’s seat
- New hoses
- Spindle installed
- Electronic starter installed
- Heater core repaired
- Alternator Conversion
Parts Secured Arriving Soon:
- Full seat package and sub floor
- Gas tank rehab
- All door handles inside and out
- Fan blade
- Starter button
- Shifter knobs
- Floor mat
- Hood and fender badges
- OEM 16” rims
- Peddle pads
- PTO winch
Still lots of rebuilding to do as well starting with brakes and electrical. I pray the clutch is solid, but if not I have one.

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings,
I purchased two salvaged OEM tanks. None were useable. Eddie did some research and found a Jeep tank that works.
Piece by piece Flagstaff Patrol is getting closer to its roll.

Nice looking tank David! Would it be possible for you to get the info from Eddie: company that supplied the tank, and the tank part number?
Paul

Paul,
Eddie the Eagle is out having some fun today but within a few days I'm sure he will send that info along.
Many thanks to all those who have served our country!

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Interesting. I have a tank like that in a '66 Patrol. I always thought it was stock because it fit so well. I guess not.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings,
Flagstaff Patrol is getting closer to the dirt. I should know the answer to this but I’ve experienced what I am describing.
As Eddie is rebuilding the suspension and 4WD axles in the front this is what is happening. With both front hubs engaged I’d expect the front axle to be locked and they rotate together. But they don’t. Similarity when in the field, with other Parrols, the front wheels do not always act as if they are locked.
How are they supposed to rotate with both hubs locked in?

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings, I solved my own questions. My experience indicated that the hubs do not tottally lock the front axle because Patrol's have open or limited slip differentials. Still one must ask what do they hubs really do if they don't lock the front axles? I guess it is just a more positive connection.
