Hi Esteban,

Yes the fuel pump is fine. After running for a while then stopping, the fuel filter between the pump and carb is completely filling with fuel, I mean COMPLETELY filling then car wont start again. First I thought it was a blocked needle and seat but the fuel line is pressurised between the pump and filter and not filter and carb. The filter is brand new and appears clean and free of debris. Is it possible fuel is vaporising in the fuel line?

Keep in mind this isnt a P engine. Its the 253 V8

That's really strange Tim. I would have guessed that all the line between the pump and the carb will be equally pressurized. I can only suggest installing a different filter.

Hope one of the members can shed some ideas here.

Hey Tim, Id try another filter mate, is it just a $2 cheapy from Supercheap or Autobarn, or is It some flash filter that has a one-way valve fitted to it and was accidentally put in the wrong way round, cause I find it strange its not getting past the filter, so that tells me that the filter is likely the cause.

Also what size pump is it running and what's the flow specks for it ? Is the filter too much of a restriction that it doesn't have enough PSI to supply fuel all the way to carb with a filter fitted or I the pump tired ? Try running a straight hose from Pump to carby, preferably a clear hose to watch fuel flow ect, that will show the flow pattern and if its stuggling to supply fuel all the way to the carby.

Cheers

It's definitely not the filter. I've had 3 different filters in it with the same problem. Fuel pump is standard mechanical pump for the 253 so flow rate is fine.

Tim-

It sure sounds like vapor lock to me... The 253's fuel pump location lends itself well to heat soaking after a hot engine is shut off, and the fan stops blowing on it.

Is the fuel line between the pump and the carb a steel line? Is the filter between the pump and carby a steel filter? If so, then those would also promote rapid heat buildup immediately after a hot engine is shut off.

A good test is to go out and get the truck hot enough to create the condition, but open the hood before shutting it off. Allow the heat to escape, and see if this prevents the hot-restart failure.

Hey Rob,

Good to hear from you. That makes a lot of sense as I have been unable to re create the problem in my garage with the hood open
