Drain the transmission, and then add 2 quarts of oil through the dipstick. Let settle a bit and check. Theoretically, capacity is 2-1/8 quarts. Don't overfill.

Transfer case is easier. It will take 3.5 quarts.

Ok so do I need to remove the floor plate to do this? having trouble getting ahold of the dip stick to turn it. don't think its been done in some time. Its the last thing to lube.

What I used to do, is bend a regular screwdriver into an L shape, around 1" the leg, and try to hook it to the dipstick handle loop, and then turn. At this time you can use a locking pliers to grab the screwdriver for additional leverage.

Ok here is a new one, Need a quike step by step on rebuilding the clutch slave cylinder. Got the kit in the mail today, 2 ruber cups, and a little cap? I rebuilt brake cylinders once when I was a kid but had adult supervision. Think the principle is the same but I have a lot riding on this fix. Little help please.

Once you take the cylinder apart, it will be pretty self explanatory. The parts that come in the kit replace the old parts that you take off, except for the boot on the bleeder because it is usually missing. Clean everything well, clean out the cylinder walls and the piston. I usually use a Scotchbrite pad. Remove the bleeder and make sure all of your passages are clear; dirt likes to collect here because it is the lowest point in the hydraulic clutch system.

Here is a diagram from the parts book. Another reason the parts books are very handy.

Just back on filling the gearbox and transfer.

I undo the fill hole on the left side of the boxes. Check your levels from here also, use a hose with funnel going up through battery hole, then fill.

Ok, so is the Valve cover on these 60's a hand tighten only? Cant get it to stop leaking, I noticed that the more I tighten the middle expands?????? put a new ruber gasket on after
valve adjustment. AThe old one was another materials...pretty stiff. whats the procedure here. I cant afford all this oil on my floor!
