You are welcome in Texas anytime. No need to move here for the hoses, just order online:

MadTripper wrote:I haven't done any of my soft lines but the hard lines I just buy the easy bend stuff at napa and make my own. I think I paid about $30 for a flaring kit a few years back and it works just fine. Actually, that's how I added the MC from my '74 LandCruiser to Plow Patrol...metric on the mc side and standard on the rest of the vehicle.

Will a double flare tool work or does it need to be specifically a single flare tool?

Single flare would be used for fuel line, double flare is use for brake lines. :D

Since I have the rear axle of my Patrol out for the bearing change at the differential, I've decided to change the brake lines that are mounted there, since they are bruised to say the least. At the same time I wanted to change the flexible brake line that I purchased from O'Reilly with the information posted by Zed some months ago.

The problem that I'm facing, and wanted to know if anybody has tackle this part, is that the original flexible brake hose connect to the brake line "T" with a flat metal washer that acts as a gasket. The new brake hose has a double flare, so there's no provision in the old "T" with an inverted flare in that position. The metal washer could work, but clearly the new hose is not intended to seal like that.

In the following picture, over the brake lines diagram that RiverPatrol posted before (1967 and up), you see what fitting is the one I'm referring. On top is a possible fitting that I found at Jegs, Earl's#361-972052. Below is a picture of the fitting that came out of my Patrol.

I'm certain the Earl's distribution block would work just fine for what you need ... you might need a longer mounting bolt- that's all.

Esteban,
Your post confused me. :?
The best way to start is to look at the flare thing. We are trying to create a compression fitting that seals brake fluid. This standard is tried and true.
This is a great history write up too:
Image

Double Flare refers to the flare just being folded back over itself and at 45*.

This shows how the tool does the job without deforming.

You definitely could do what your bro did and get longer ready made ones and then loop the extra. I used my local NAPA stores flaring tool for free. I would try to make them custom just for the fun of doing it, I bet money you do too. Damn engineer types! :snooty:
