The I unhooked everything and removed the sender- it was totally siezed up - the armature did not swing at all:

To get the armatures unstuck and freely swinging, I dunked both the senders in my super secret "unseizing" concoction (diesel fuel mixed with Marvel Oil 50-50)

Did you soak both the outside and the inside? (e.g. did the resistive coil get wet with your super secret magic unseizing concoction?)

Affirmative... I soaked the whole thing, totally submerged, for about 5 hours -

I used CLR to clean and restore mine and it worked great. Just let it soak for a while then used a soft wire brush to help remove some of the crud. Then repeat the process till it's to your liking.

If you choose CLR, just don't soak it for very long - CLR is acidic (PH is around 2.0-3.0), and will attack the copper in the windings, as well as the brass on the float ...

CLR's own FAQ page recommends against using it on copper, brass and aluminum...

Yesterday I got the PTO driveshaft all hooked up and confirmed that the the winch works. The shaft sections were missing a couple woodruff keys , so someone had just reversed the shaft orientation and threaded a bolt through the tension bolt hole into the woodruff slots (have a I ever mentioned that this Patrol had a lot of hacked-up stuff on it?) - Now the winch driveshaft is nice and tight with the correct keys in place, and is back to full-strength.

I also installed a battery tray and tie-down bolt kit from the local auto parts store; so now my battery is nice and snug, which allowed me to install the floor pans beneath the seat. Now I don't have to worry about hitting a bump and having the battery ground out on me

My "government issue" center console fits between the seats perfectly, and also seems to fit the character of this vehicle:

Yesterday evening was a fun one - I took the Patrol to run out and grab some drive-thru action (no, not Taco Bell . I got my food, pulled out into traffic, and felt a somewhat familiar "chug.... CHUG" feeling; so I U-turned it and tried to make the banzai run for the gas station on the corner, but to no avail - dead on the side of the road.... CHUG...... {wheeze}

{Rinnnnng}..... {Rinnnnnng}
"Hello?"

"Hello Dearest, Love of my life, Greatest Wife on Earth..."

{awkward pause}.... "What happened?"

" Well, I have dinner here with me, but do you think you could come and get it...? Oh, and bring one of the gas cans from the garage along with you please... "

"You're out of gas...?"

"Well, I hope that's all it is , but yeah... I'm sitting here on the side of the road... "

{Awkward pause #2}...... followed by .... {hysterical laughter}

15 minutes later, She is driving home with the kid's dinner, while I am pulling the last 500 feet or so into the gas station to finish fueling up...

Note to Self- When gas gauge reads 1/4 tank remaining - go to gas station.
