Rough Running Patrol

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

Another old school diagnostic test uses a vacuum gauge. For instance: low vacuum may mean worn rings (will show on compression test as well), vacuum leak, wrong valve timing (slipped timing chain), retarded ignition timing, Oscillating vacuum may mean leaky valve or weak springs. Vacuum that drops steadily may be a plugged exhaust.

Just a thought.

Any luck? I can't get mine to stop backfiring un acceleration. I'm working down the list of items. Were did you get your distributor cap and button? I can't find them.

Installed new condenser and points. Seems a little better but still rough at low RPM, runs strong and smooth at higher RPM (>1200). Definitely runs smoother with a little mechanical choke applied.

Your timing is probably a bit retarded. Might be at 0 degrees BTDC. Should be at 10 degrees BTDC.
